Intro to Promise Tangeman: Website Design
Okay, I'm going to introduce Promise Tangeman, she is my friend, but first and foremost, First and foremost she's my friend. Secondly, she's the founder and CEO of GO Live, which is a web design company based in the peripheries of Los Angeles, California. And she has established a team, like it's so impressive. When I first met Promise, she was just like this amazing graphic designer, and then she created a store to sell her graphic design website. And then she created a team around her who helps customize these beautiful graphic design websites. The business has just gotten bigger and bigger over time. Now she's designed websites for some amazing people that I'm sure she's gonna be talking to you about, but I'm a huge fan of Sophia Amoruso, #girlboss, huge fan. So when I saw that Promise did her website, I was like, "Oh my God! Okay, so what does her voice sound like? Is she a real person?" (laughter) But she also does like a lot of other amazing people, huge celebrity bloggers, and c...
elebrities, so the proof is in her pudding. And she also organized, planned, Designer Vaca, and this was a passion project for her. Her and her co-founder Alissa decided we need a space for female graphic designers, and that space doesn't exist. And we don't want this to be like a 'warm and fuzzy', 'pass the lip gloss', we want to get down, we want to get dirty, it's true though, right? We go to these 'warm and fuzzy' events, and it's like no, we want to talk about inspiration, we want to take our business to the next level, so Designer Vacay has now become the biggest female graphic design event in the nation. Now, she's my personal graphic designer, she's been with me through eight to ten websites, she designed everything that I do. We even designed, I created a magazine, a 150 ... it's actually a book in magazine form about photography, and she's done the whole thing. I was like, "Have you ever done this?" and she's like, "No, I've never designed this." I was like, "Awesome! I've never written anything like this, so let's just do it!" So weeks of us working together, and we did. And over that time, it really fostered our friendship, so that sometime last year, we were just itching to do a project. Remember how I said, to encourage you just do stuff just for you. It doesn't have to make sense, you just create. So we were both itching to do something, and because we love websites, and we love brands, we said, "Well, why don't we just do a four-week series on branding? We'll do a Facebook Live, we'll just have fun with it. Who cares?" And she had an opportunity to connect with entrepreneurs about their websites. I had an opportunity to talk to entrepreneurs about their brand, and listen to the things that were their pressure points. Why? And I had no idea then that it would manifest in becoming the content that is before you today. When you do passion projects, it turns into other things, and so we showed up everyday, once a week for four weeks, and we produced. So I want to give you guys a sneak peek of what we ended up calling it, "The Brandologist". (intro music) So here's the thing about that, we did all of that work for about $50. (laughter) We did all of it, it just took a lot of elbow grease. But we grew our newsletter list, we grew our social platforms, we learned how to hone our message, and when people were like, "Um, wait. What? Like what are they doing? Like why? Are you guys starting a new business?" No, we just wanna drink cocktails in the middle of the day. And on that note, (laughter) I would love to introduce you to Promise Tangeman! (applause) Hey! Thank you Jasmine. (cheers) That was like the best intro ever. Oh my gosh. (laughter) And how did my muscles make it into our branding commercial for that? (laughter) I have no idea, but hey, I'm not complaining. Okay, I'm so excited to be with you guys today. As Jasmine mentioned, my name is Promise Tangeman. And I am the founder and CEO of Go Live. And it's a graphic and web design studio located in the L.A. area, and we create website themes, we host workshops which are a lot of fun, and we collaborate on custom designs for people just like you guys, entrepreneurs, and small businesses. And we have so much fun. And it's called Go Live because, we focus on helping you launch a knockout website, like yesterday. So you can get back to running your business, wooing your dream clients, and doing the thing you were made to do. Alright, so, for the next few minutes I'm really excited to talk with you guys about the top three mistakes that I see people make with their websites, and how to fix them. And in that, we're also gonna talk about how to create a website that engages people, that attracts your ideal client, and that hopefully, can double or even triple yo' business! (cheers) So I'm excited about that. Alright. So. But I have no idea, first of all, where you guys are at, what your history is like with building websites. But maybe, you can relate to this girl. Launching a website is so easy these days. Pssh! As if! Does this look familiar? Okay, so I need to add a line of code. A href="//... What is this alien-speak? (slam) They want how much to design my website? Why don't you just take my kidney! (laughter) I need to improve my SEO? What does that mean? Oh wait, I think I've heard of that before. What is it? Sunshine Elephant Orangutan? No, that can't be right. What crazy person said this was easy?! Figuring out how to launch a business, design and publish a website is a huge undertaking. Definitely not easy. This is too hard! I give up! (sobbing) Okay, can anyone relate to that? Yeah. A little bit? Okay, okay yes. I totally am with you. And not only am I a professionally trained designer, but I'm an entrepreneur, I'm a small business owner. I'm a dreamer, and a doer. And so I am with you guys. I have felt so frustrated and overwhelmed with my business. And yes, I might be busy pushing around pixels, or obsessing over color palettes and you may not be, but I'm also staying awake at night, trying to problem-solve how I can better position my brand to stand out from the crowd. Or better understand my clients so I can help them succeed. So even though you may feel like this girl, you can't give up. Because your website is more than just a website. It's your digital front door. And it has the power to help you get found online, and most importantly, make you a lot of money. Which and that is what makes me so excited! One of our clients wrote in, and she said this. She launched her website through our workshop, and she wrote in saying this: "Our business has tripled from the launch of our new website. Thank you so much, words cannot express how grateful we are." And what she didn't say in this, was that two months later, she was able to quit her full-time job, and her and her husband work full-time in their photography business. And so that is what gets me excited. Because your website is positioned right, can change your business, and it can change your life.

I have followed Jasmine since she first started and I am not a photographer. But I loved how smart she was in helping her fellow photographers grow their business back then and her enthusiasm and professionalism! I have am a honeymoon designer and have used her vision to help with my own website. This boot camp was great! Yes, I am one of the people who watched it for free online. I would love to be able to purchase her materials/workbook, but unfortunately at this time, husband has been unemployed for the past 18 months and my business has been put on the back burner in order for me to go out and try to find a job. But I decided to go ahead and sign up for the class and watch it even though there were so many distractions. I watched the entire class and SO GLAD I DID! I'm ripping off the band-aid and starting my entire website over again thanks to Jasmine and Promise. I'm going to implement the tips that she gave us today and hopefully that will be enough to propel my business back into the limelight! So glad that I stumbled upon your website/blog 10 years ago. Thank you so much and continued blessings to you!

Wow, where to start. When you come to a class you're hoping you can learn just one thing, and it will be worth it - and I can tell you, in just the first 30 MINUTES of the class I had furiously scribbled down so many takeaways that everything else was gravy. And there was a LOT LEFT (that was all amazing). But let's be specific: the biggest thing I learned from Jasmine is how detailed and purposeful her ideal client is. Absolutely everything was chosen for a reason, and watching someone at this level talk about that was incredible. Also, I know what you're thinking: "Ideal client" is not a novel idea - HOWEVER! she makes it accessible. Her honesty and hard work shine through, and I can safely say I'm walking away from this class as a changed entrepreneur. I have a direction. I have a goal. I finally have a way to be purposeful about growing my business. THANK YOU Jasmine!!!!!!!!!11!one!!

Do yourself a favor! This was an amazing class! Jasmine knows how to bring out the best in her students. The concepts she embodies apply to so many other businesses. And her friend Promise is so caring and honest about the advice she gives on how to build a better website, in a world where our storefronts are turning more and more into an digital one. I am so charged up and ready to take my business to the next level. Jasmine is a tremendous business woman and has helped so many people over the years. And she has had that helping heart since day one of her business. Thanks Jasmine!
