Charles Krebs

Charles Krebs’ 35 year career as a freelance photographer has led him down a variety of paths and disciplines. From magazine assignment work for publications such as Smithsonian, Audubon, Time, Food and Wine and Discover, to architectural interiors and exteriors for designers and architects. Always possessing a great interest in the natural world, the desire to photograph the astonishing micro subjects people rarely observe compelled him to begin working with optical microscopes and other extreme-closeup equipment. Since 2005 Charles has worked almost exclusively on these images. During that time he has participated in the two preeminent international photomicrography competitions: Nikon Small World and Olympus Bioscapes.Within nine years, he had amassed 41 winning entries, the most by any photomicrographer in the history of these competitions. In his presentation, Charles will discuss the unique challenges encountered in this field of photography, and present the equipment, methods, and techniques used to create these fascinating images.
