My Office Video Setup

in this video. We just wanted to demonstrate what you can do in your own home office. And really what I've chosen to do in my office where I shoot a lot so you can see our setup and obviously we wouldn't be filming with a shot like this composed where you can see the lights and the microphone and the window and everything. And you've seen some other lessons in this class like that. But it's a great setup because it's actually relatively cheap to do with the lighting. Were just using paper lanterns that I purchased on amazon. You can get a pack of 10 for less than $ the lightbulbs while these are more powerful light bulbs, they are still only 10 to $15 per bulb. You can even use some daylight balanced bulbs that you find at your local hardware store. You want to make sure that your light bulb temperature, the warmth of your light bulb matches the light that's coming from outside, especially if you're shooting during the day. Another thing I like about this room is that it has carpet so ...

that automatically reduces the echo that I get from recording in a room with hard walls or hard floor. Sometimes I'll even put up blankets or hang blankets around the room to soften and dampen that echo even more right now. I'm recording with the rode NT G three boom or shotgun microphone, which sounds really good. This is a more expensive shotgun microphone. You can get the rode NT G to which is a little bit cheaper or use something like a la Valliere microphone or if you're recording to your computer USB microphone, like the blue snowball is a great option in terms of my background. I really wanted to show off a bit of my personality but also keep it clean behind me. I've seen a lot of people record their vlogs or their, their online courses in their bedroom or you can see their bed unmade, the clothes on the floor and that just looks bad and unprofessional. I designed my background to look good in video. So I put up a couple pictures that I've taken and a poster. I like when I do shoot wider shots, you can see this desk or this shelf behind me and I have my typewriter and a couple of old cameras on it and this shows my personality and a little bit about myself And if you do have a Youtube channel where you are the face of that channel showing off your personality with things in your background can help. The last thing I want to mention about this setup is it's great for recording with my webcam to, I'm going to be showing you how to shoot great videos with the webcam later on. But with my background drop, I actually have a desk that is mobile. It has wheels so I can move the desk and the webcam and the lights, the whole set up forward and back. If I want to get closer or further from the background. So it still looks good on the webcam. So I just wanted to share with you this setup because not only is it a setup that we're using in this course for a professional online video course, but also I set up that I use a lot for my own Youtube channel. Thanks for watching.
