Assignment: Editing Your Film
(bright music) Okay. You've made it to the end. You've seen how I edit my film, all of my theories and ideas of just about how I need to be constantly energized through the edit and constantly feeling inspired to keep editing. That's what I want you to take away from this. I'm not the most technical editor in the world. There's a million YouTube videos that you can watch. That'll show you shortcuts and ways to speed things up, all those technical things. Awesome. That's out there for the world. But the biggest thing I want you to take away from this is to keep inspired for your edit. Even if you are feeling a little bit down, you're not inspired. Go watch some videos, go watch some movies, or some short films on Vimeo, and get reinspired to edit your film. For the most part, everything was planned, and we knew exactly what we needed to do. So it wasn't tough. We just needed to make sure we didn't run out of steam and we didn't get burnt out. So that's the biggest, biggest thing I wan...
t you to take away. And now, it's your time to go edit your short film. I'm so excited for you. This is the part where everything, all of this hard work comes together. And now, you have the power to take all that footage and create emotion with it and create something that changes people, hopefully. If you want people to laugh, hopefully, you're laughing at the edit yourself. If you want people to cry, hopefully, you're crying yourself. That's what we want. We need to feel the edit as we're building it and not forget that someone is going to be watching this and you need them to feel something. So that first initial impression that you have when you're editing your film, can't forget that because that's what the audience is going to feel. So now we've come to the end of the workshop. Thank you so much for coming along. I've enjoyed this process so much. We've made a short film together, and that's a huge, huge feat. Now, it's time for you to take all this knowledge and finish your film. Remember, throughout this whole process of making your film, we have to be creating with intention. So just thinking about our moves, thinking about what this means, thinking about what our story is and thinking about how our decisions of camera movements, sound or editing or color, how that translates to our story and how that translates to what the audience is going to feel. You're gonna have so much fun. I can't wait to see you in the next one.
