Using Videos for Promotion

So what we're talking about some videos, how to use video for promotion so, again, I love to use video to promote it because I feel like specifically on facebook, you're going get mohr views for a native video right now, then you would posting the link, so I'll post a native video on facebook a little one, the two minute thing saying, hey, guys, go click this link tto learn about, uh, and you're gonna learn more about this episode and go listen to the episode so given example for what I dio on youtube, um, and then also youtube, facebook and facebook to instagram to promote heart guys lose house here with the one and only john chu, and we just did an incredible podcast. The link is below. Make sure to check it out, but john is doing a movie or just finishing up a movie. Now you see me too, right? And he got toe learn from some of the top magicians. Mentalists in the world during this film is coming out soon and he's gonna teach me. Imagine he's going to do a magic trick for me today. Y...

es, and he's gonna perform it for us to see how how good it is of what he's learned from these top magicians and world's we're going to see what his skills are. First of all, I want to apologize to any magicians out there. I am not a magician make movies eso there's magic movie but but there is something that I learned that we'll see how it goes. Okay, cool. I'm excited. I love magic, so we'll see if this is good. So s so I want you to picture a on picture a deck of cards, right? All in front of you. Do you see them? Do you see all of them? Okay, shuffle them a little bit. Do you see that? Good. Good. Now I want you to pick the face cards with number cards. Which one do you want? Oh, the take away. Take away the face card. Ok, so go ahead and pick up the face cards out of the air, go and collect them all good. And it's, like thrown against the wall. Okay? Okay, good. And so you see all the number cards left? Correct? Now I want you to zero in on maybe a suit of them. Okay. Now throw the other suits away. I could get, um, now, uh, go ahead and pick the one that you want it want it take I had one from beginning, is that what it is? I see it there I knew that you were a good idea I'm a magician so okay so you so you picked that one right? You see it I see it I didn't pick it out of the air okay let me look at it okay uh and will you go ahead and say what it is? It's the five of hearts five hearts okay, so I have this app here this pretty cool it's called rising card have you seen rising car before? I have not seen rising currents eso let's see where is it? Ah, so I'm not gonna touch this here so there's that you see the right my holding out are you gonna hold it see the rising card even touched it all zoom in so you can see it rising card app is right in the middle there yeah so go ahead and click on the rising card at let's stop it yet now take your card out of the air that you had it I'm gonna put it inside but inside put it right above the think it and now shake it and let's see what happens holy crap! What the hell is that? It that's it you see it holy cow that's crazy and they're this right that's insane damn my mind is blocked and usually david blaine just walks out just like watching you teo they haven't john to the director position make sure to check out the closet thing, make sure you check out the full interviews and saying is incredible uh, my mind is blown we didn't rehearse that, so check it out this podcast it'll blow your mind just like that did for me. So you guys okay? I saw after every interview in person, my goal is to do a little little skit, a little thing, a little stick, and then I'll share that up on facebook, you know, youtube and drive traffic that actually get a lot a lot of views on facebook, so I'll post that there and the drug traffic back to write to the show, not link to show you one mohr clip. This is a fifteen second one. I think we just have one video clip or was there more want you feel strong and you, you more connected with other people as well, and ultimately that comes down to the reason we were make movies. The reason we watch movies is to feel connected a community. So I think who has it? The more I go through it that that's that's really what drives? Sure so that's a little fifteen second when it's kind of a tease her a little point, a little message, a little quote that I can share on instagram and dr people back teo the side as well so again radio for me is a powerful way to drive that traffic and get that distribution and then snap shot and you guys you know I was doing periscope earlier I was doing snapchat and I will show people behind the scenes ok guys we're about to interview with jon chu uh make sure to check out the podcast when it comes out here's the link on the same thing on periscope I'm trying to get as creative as possible to get this distribution so for me that's that's what it's all about is getting creative again it's not about you got to do a great episode you've gotta perform great you gotta ask the right questions produce it edited takes time and energy but then it doesn't matter if no one listens to it it really doesn't matter if you're trying to get uh make money you gotta get people listen to it it's all about the marketing and afterwards that's was about uh you guys have any questions yeah we've got some questions coming in here now in that video you said with john shoe that you hadn't rehearsed that it was kind of just like it was all it was off the cuff so is that your strategy there you just want that to be something that's totally organic so after the interview is done I say hey do you have like, a few minutes so we could do a quick video usually I like to do something fun and playful do you have any talents? You know I'll tell people examples like I did a juggling contest I've done a push up contest played basketball in a staring contest over rock paper scissor is there anything that you want to do? That's fun he's like well, I'm not really sure but I just did this magic trick thing that I learned like okay let's do it so I just started recording and that's what came about so that's just what I do it could be a quick little thing. Okay, tell me what you're gonna tell us today on the pa gas what do we cover? And you could have your guest to say something so yeah right? And on those other shorter videos with the ones that are only fifteen seconds, is there a different strategy with those because they're shorter? There are those used differently to promote put those just on instagram and I just try to find like a one little nugget I have christine pull out from the video like okay, fine a couple different options that I can post on instagram and I also give that to my guest I'll text my guest or email to him hey, if you want to use this on facebook on instagram, make sure to share this and here's the link so I give them content also create, like, quote cars, I think you said you do cool cars, so create a nice image of the gassed with a quote on there or something like that if it looks great don't want to share it it's kind of like and their prime won't share it. So spend time. Youse can values another site to create something nice and give it to your guest because I would promote that. If someone created a nice video for me, I would share it because I want to put myself in a good light so I would share it. Um, yes. So, is there a certain software you use from when you film it to put it onto instagram? Because aren't you only like to use the phone or some like that? Um, I just saved a drop box, and then I got a job on my phone. Okay? Yeah. So I just downloaded on dropbox. My phone forget. Thank you. Just upload the file. Yeah. Questions about this session in general, a traffic distribution, marketing promotion. Yeah, I've got some more coming into it. The online audience here. So this from zane hopefully not ours ain't here in the studio unless he's asking questions from a seat, but another zane online uh zane wants to know how many people do you have working with you on your videography team? Do you have people helping him out with this? Because I could see this taking a lot of a lot of time. Yeah, I'm have one person who comes in three cameras set up in the studio and then he added state or someone else wanted it, but it's not hard if you just get them set up its fine and you want to do that? I know people that just stopped their iphone and record with two people, I just like to have a little higher quality production value, so I'm spending its love of money. I'm spending five hundred bucks for every interview just for video now I could just do audio on it's like, you know, a hundred bucks or whatever it is to add it in to produce it and that's fine, but I'm deciding to step it up a notch because I wanted to be one of the best in the world so that's why I'm investing in it and it's more long tail things for youtube I want to have more content for for me on youtube, so there's other benefits okay? As far as the crew goes, you just have like one person with the camera just order three cameras, three camera I have one person with three cameras in studio for you know, this is my studio here. You kind of see the lighting right here, he's, he's video our thing and then there's three cameras right there and that's it great, and I'm still recording, so I do. This is something I do that I made the mistake of. I lost my audio one time when I interviewed someone after an hour, and I've felt horrible to ask them to do it again. So now I double mike up. I'll have a lot of mike if I'm doing a video and then I have the head set that I go right to my computer. So I always have a double mike. So might be worth if you have microphones to, like, just turn your iphone on the voice memo and put it in between you guys on airplane mode so you can get a backup audio recording was the worst feeling mr record for an hour and then have to record again or be like, sorry you're not going to go up anymore because I screwed up the worst. Okay, great. Let's. See, we have one more question here, and this is something I know. We talked about social media a little bit, but the specific question. Have you ever thought about creating a facebook group specifically for the podcast? I mean, don't anything with specific facebook groups, maybe for specific podcast episodes or anything like that. Kind of great question. Everybody in a facebook I have, ah, this online program called the school race academy. That is kind of like my community. So I have a group there private facebook group, that I'll share the podcast in, um, I think you'd be smart to create, like a group for your your podcast. Definitely. So I would create it.

Wow! This was the first time I watched a tutorial in this format - and LOOOOVE It - The audience was great , love the interactive format and the small group , because everyone gets better interaction face time with the instructor . Of course , I love anything that Lewis does- and would love to thank him and Creative Live for the free month we received as a gift at the Summit of Greatness 2018. Also, before this I actually never heard of Creative Live, so I am grateful to have found out about you guys. Absolutely EXCELLENT Creative Live course. It's funny because I was going through some old emails and I found a promo email to this course when Lewis was first promoting it. I missed out on it the first go around and so seeing this email made me curious if it was still being offered, and it was! I purchased it and went through it in two days (it would have been one day but I had other work to get done :-) Lewis is so amazing as an instructor, I really love how he gives great insight but doesn't see anything as being a "secret". He's all about getting things done through hard work and simply experimenting. He truly shares all in this course! If you are familiar with the podcasting world to some extent and are curious as to how to monetize your podcast, this is for you! Take it and enjoy! -JT
