Promoting Your Own Products

Talking about promoting your products so this is ahh great way to make monetize your podcast how are you a life coach to have courses as well or just coaching right now? Coaching and I have an online retreat coming up perfect for this a great way to sell your coaching annual retreat you don't even need sponsors you only sell anything else just create a podcast to sell your own products I did this with my online coaching program ical the school greatest academy it's a five hundred dollar program and sold the last three rounds of it last couple years from the podcast I created a podcast people say we want maura give us more information, give us more training teaches this this this so I said, okay, I'm gonna create this and I pitched it on the podcast and people bought from that so I've made a good chunk of change from promoting my own courses on my podcast and you should do that too, and sell your coaches say, listen, guys, each week I take um here's an idea each week the first three peo...

ple that submit to this specific form will get a ten minute coach and call from me free strategy session from that ten minute call, you can up sell them into a monthly program with you into a one off coaching into something that other package you have but get creative and say ok, the first three people that leave a comment you'll get a ten minute strategy session something along those lines and then also hey guys six months away is our retreat in maui or wherever it is uh it was all I thought that I was like come and do yoga retreat okay, but you should do that too I said you should do that yes, so promote your own products and making it the right way, right? So if you have the brewery podcast what's it called better burry microbrewer microbrewer microbrew podcast do consulting on the side as well no, don't do that you don't think it's just me I don't do that consulting haven't e book like failure in book on ldf that has some partial transcripts from the podcasts are working on a study guide for beer exam the certified beer servers so hopefully I'll be pushing that the audio of a certification we'll be working on taking the exams, some publishing my study notes and I'm going to be putting that into a study guide and like a large portion of the microbe er audience is interested in getting this certificate. How much certificate cost to take it's like a seventy dollars online exam which is like who's going to buy a study guide for this, but I've seen other study goods for sale online some here's what I would do I have a partner with this the exam company say listen I've got this podcast and let's do a rev share I'm going to send people to a specific page anyone that signs up for your exam you give me thirty bucks or fifteen percent and what you do is listen I want to give them a study guide and I want you to give me an affiliate commission for anyone that I send your way and then the study guide sell the study guide and then sending the link from the study guide to the exam for a coupon code or something like that you can work with the exam company start making money that way boom sit man thanks drop the clicker but find ways of creating products services and sell them through your podcast um I don't know why I had engage your audience there but I'm gonna keep going uh and I would say balance promoting your own products and other products don't sell too hard I only talk about two things max that aren't related to the podcast we'll talk about right now I'm talking about my book sometime people by my book and I have a sponsor read as well but usually it's just one thing I'd like to talk about and sell other than the show I think you begin to too many things you're going to alienate the sponsors and the listeners so one of two things each time that aren't the podcast and again you know I've got my own courses I sell I've got my book um tell people to go to a specific link exactly where to go I put it on the blawg on how to get a discount code, how to buy it, how to sign up all those different things so be very clear on where to go, how to sign up when it's over give them instructions and that's that any questions? We've got a question right here that we've got some votes on this one here and you'd mentioned a nathan on his question they're about if you've got any consulting work and that kind of sparked a conversation online about consulting so a couple of boats on this one and they really just love for you to elaborate a little bit more on getting consulting work from podcasting like when does that seem like a viable option for people especially people were just getting started should they be looking into something like I think day one first episode if you're a coach or you have some type of consulting service your designer, you're a programmer or any of these things your photographer and you want to start a podcast you could start providing your services right away and give people a challenge so the first thing people that leave a comment in the first person that does this the first person that contacts me first person that emails me, I'll do a strategy session for free, a ten to fifteen minutes strategy session on how to start and be and pass your test and then you could coach people along the test. God, they could hire you to be your tutor essentially or to give them the strategy where you sell them a package for five hundred bucks. I'll give you the strategy guide. I'll do an hour session with you. I'll walk you through the process. I'll do everything I can get really creative with this. Um but to start thinking of ways you can sell it your your services that way. But it's really powerful, you know? Yeah, I think that a lot of people get overwhelmed by that word consulting, but it could be something as simple it's just asking and answering questions right. It could be just like a quick little skype or a google hangout. You say for one hundred bucks, I'll do an hour session with your two hundred fifty bucks. I'll do on our consulting session with you over skype over the phone and guide you and coach you essentially I mean, how many people here are coaches anyone besides, yeah, coach half the people here and you could all be coaches, you know, nathan, you could be a coach as well because you have an expertise that you've been teaching for a while through the podcast you weren't even aware of that you could start selling so question um a lot of popular podcasters have created their own apse where their podcast have you tried that model have you built enough? I just feel like it so I feel like it's a partially I feel it's a waste of time I'd rather drive over to my website and app is more like a shiny ball you know it's like I feel people just want to do because it's cool but then you gotta maintain it you got up to the content you have constantly talk about it because people are gonna go there so many gaps in our phone that I feel like it's gonna add so much value for you to want to open it and your app is not instagram so it's kind of like it's just gonna be sitting on someone's phone maybe they open it once every two weeks but what's the value so I'd say focus drive traffic back to your website get thie opt in there and then use the newsletter to promote your products and services that makes sense come up just talking about any sort of promotion that you do outside of the digital world anything that you actually do like with physical things postcards, mailings you know even just like posting things in newspaper this question anything that's not digital you see any value in that absolutely I mean, I think I know what you're saying with that I mean, I've got t shirts that I have I have like no books I brought a t shirt that I was gonna wear for the second statement may be all put it on I've got like a little notebooks that I give out to people that buy my online program and I send them t shirts, stickers and a lot of people podcasters to sticker game uh you know, I've got my book that's a physical product and for me this is interesting zoom in see if you can not sound the book here but if you could bring it in closer so I want to give you this is about this call strategy so here's the thing when I did this book and I'm not this isn't a pitch for the book but this is for your podcast if you got to write a book, does anyone here interested in writing a book? Okay, cool is anyone here instant writing a book that's related to your podcast okay about same people so I just want to show you this again I'm not trying to fix this, but this is my logo essentially for my podcast on a few guys and see this but this is the podcast logo and my face is on the cover, so for me I when I created this book I wanted to I didn't want to put my face on the cover originally I was like you know what too much ego like I don't want people to think I'm just like trying to promote myself I was gonna have just a different logo try to keep it simple and clean and then a friend of mine adam braun whose new york times best selling author said you've got to put your face on the cover because you're gonna have a deeper impact with your with your readers if you have your face on it and I was like what do you mean he's like when you walk down the street I bet you nine out of ten people don't know who malcolm gladwell wise guys heard malcolm gladwell but if you want unless you saw his videos or something online you wanna recognize him he could be walking right by you have no clue you just walked by him but if he had a spot on his book you'd recognize him because his book would be everywhere so many people read it and you'd be like oh that's him so his brand association has more credibility but I put my logo of my podcast on there and I think it's gonna make a huge difference because it's on there is just creating that association but people see that they're gonna go back and listen to the podcast is my goal so I'm trying to put my logo everywhere on my shirts, my books, and I'm sending out my notebooks as well stickers and it's interesting because my, uh friend of mine was wearing the shirt. She was wearing a shirt out in west hollywood one day a few weeks ago, and she said she was getting groceries that's just putting groceries in her car. I have like, the logo on my shirt here and then like a little logo on the back, just like in the back corner, like a little logo. She was a pretty grocery, her car, she said. Someone driving by just noticed the logo on the back and said, school of greenness, I love that guy. Listen to podcasts all time, just screaming out the window because you saw the logo so it's just interesting to know that like you're putting it out there and people see it, they reminded by it, you recognize it. Steve steve from nerd fitness is a blogger who only has a podcast, is a blogger who has nerd fitness gear, is well, and he says he sees his shirts out there in the wild sometimes, and people were just wearing your brand, talking about your podcast, I think that's a powerful thing, so hopefully that answered the question, chris here I know that when we kicked off so you talked about doing this the live environment with a studio audience with something that you don't typically do with your podcast we've had a lot of questions about about sort of parlaying that experience and podcasts into more speaking engagements sort of taking it to a live audience and try to building that source of revenue of like getting booked as a speaker yes, anything that any advice you have for people looking I mean I mean the podcast has helped me definitely in a big way get speaking case right after this on sunday I'm speaking at a conference in vegas and uh the guy bought a thousand copies of my book to come speak so for me that's because I'm not charging for speeches right now because I'm trying to get the book sales I'm like forgoing my speaking free but you know the price of the books twenty five dollars you guys can figure that out um I'm getting a lot of speaking gays because the brand has grown, the podcast has grown and being the host that's helped a lot so it doesn't matter if you have a huge podcast or if you're in the microbrewery uh industry you can still become the expert in that niche and get paid to speak if you're like one of the most credible people so it's held me with speaking gigs help me was consulting you were there at the event last weekend, right? And the woman on stage was like, how can you coach me, like I'll pay whatever. It takes me to coach me. So I'm constituting approach to be approaching people on their business. Um, speaking of conferences, it's happening a lot?

Wow! This was the first time I watched a tutorial in this format - and LOOOOVE It - The audience was great , love the interactive format and the small group , because everyone gets better interaction face time with the instructor . Of course , I love anything that Lewis does- and would love to thank him and Creative Live for the free month we received as a gift at the Summit of Greatness 2018. Also, before this I actually never heard of Creative Live, so I am grateful to have found out about you guys. Thank you to Lewis and Creative Live - I will for sure taking full advantage (in a nice way :) of my free access. Beautiful!!

Absolutely EXCELLENT Creative Live course. It's funny because I was going through some old emails and I found a promo email to this course when Lewis was first promoting it. I missed out on it the first go around and so seeing this email made me curious if it was still being offered, and it was! I purchased it and went through it in two days (it would have been one day but I had other work to get done :-) Lewis is so amazing as an instructor, I really love how he gives great insight but doesn't see anything as being a "secret". He's all about getting things done through hard work and simply experimenting. He truly shares all in this course! If you are familiar with the podcasting world to some extent and are curious as to how to monetize your podcast, this is for you! Take it and enjoy! -JT
