Crafting a Great Interview

What I want to do now is we're going to bring up a guest I believe that is correct and I see him I see him being nervous and fidgeting getting ready to come up throughout this skinny yeah yeah way we're doing yet it's better that he doesn't but yeah let's get zane up on stage is gonna be fun all right? Okay, so wait have you introduced yourself for the quick all right uh look, guys uh my name is in and say I'm a technology entrepreneur hair based in silicon valley I run a software consultancy business where we partner up with venture back startups I also hosts a podcast called product it's for product designers and developers in silicon valley and uh we also have a meet up so uh he has come check that out at dot com slash product with two d's all right, so all right you wanna announce humans were doing or do you want? Okay, well, I think this point you may as well know right? So I figure we wait do a little role play so what I wanna do is for so what do we have here for ten minutes eig...

ht minutes ten eight so overdue is you're going teo walked through the whole process of what I just talked about in about eight minutes okay, so I want you to interview me for your podcast, okay and from the beginning we're walking in the door I'm walking to your studio teo asked me a couple questions for about eight minutes and uh and then how you would wrap it up all right and at the end so what's walking all right I'm gonna open the door studio okay I'm knocking knocking all right, well, come in what's up man nice to see you. You're nice too. Yeah, yeah. Thanks for letting me do this interview big fan of the you know you're content and thank you it's great to be on creative live here yeah, thanks for coming in and if anything is uh first ever crave life show that I bought was yours and you know if the new one's watching check out howto build your online business there you go that way one of the best course I wash it live and it was so good that I had to buy and like just thank you so there's so much content in there so thank you very much located so thinks we're excited to have you on here and I'm pumped yeah that's good start it cool how's the host time getting here was long and it was good man yeah slow early when I left but you know it's all right all right, so we're gonna get started all right? So uh everyone welcome teo the product podcast I'm your host zane avidan and today we have lewis house with us thanks common lewis thanks for having me push alright so louis is a ex pro athlete and a world record holder holder he's also south the dancer and he's he's, a lifestyle entrepreneur and the author of the school of greatness the new look new best selling book they go so so let's let's talk about why you decided to write this book now I appreciate thanks for letting me talk about the book uh, I eight years ago I had a dream a dream that I was going to write this book there's no b s eight years ago I was uh I just got done playing football I was in a cast as surgery from from getting injured in the game and my on ly dream before that was to be a pro athlete, so after I got injured in my career was over, I was sleeping on my sister's couch for about a year and a half trying to figure out what the next step was. I didn't have a college degree yet I I didn't really wanna work for anyone I wasn't sure where I'd work if I did and I got a present literally about eight years ago to this date during christmas that my brother gave me I got one gift that year it was a book the book called the four hour work week and in three days I finished that book which for me was really fast because I'm dyslexic so three days I finished the book and at the end of closing the book I had you know, cast on this armand I close it with the cast I said to myself one day I'm gonna become really good friends with the sky tim ferriss I have no clue who this guy is or where he came from but this book is incredible I'm going to figure out who his agent is on a stock, his agent and he's going to my agent and I'm going to write a book about how to get to the next level in your life want to write a book that creates possibilities in the minds of millions of people the way this book right here just did for me because before this moment I had no clue you could build a business on your own. I didn't know anything about entrepreneurship in this book gave me the information the tools just kick start that was the catalyst so that's why I wrote the book because it was a dream of mine eight years ago wow that's amazing and tell us a little bit about like the process of life writing this book and you know how long did it take? You are like some of the challenges and why you decided to like yourself self published or like a traditionally published but yeah, I mean, process was becoming getting enough value over the last eight years that I could have credibility to write this book first off. So was building a business selling the business before I could even think about writing the book. I need to get credibility. Then I found the agent. Uh, and then I spent a year writing a proposal that I scrapped because I realized that wasn't the book I wanted to write. It was a business book proposal. I told my agent I wanted to write this book, and so I scrapped it and spend another nine months writing another opposable. I sold that a year ago. And now, a year later, the book is out. That's. Amazing. I actually went through the book, and I just love the fact that how action oriented is like, you know, throughout the book, if you have, like, exercises that you know, you make people do work sheets, visualization exercises. Why did you decide to go more of like that route versus, you know, just being you know, I feel like most books out there are great. They have a lot of theory, a lot of inspiration and, uh, it's kind of like big picture thinking and that's great, but I feel like people I need tools resource is an exercise is to move forward in something and so when I read the four hour work week and I saw that he had all that and it actually kept my attention I was like that's the book I'm gonna have to write something that keeps people's attention that gives them homework exercises that challenges people to move forward not just inspiration what challenges them right maybe do one last one last question awesome yeah so you know, I want to ask a question that you usually ask you again um tell us what is your definition of greatness? Good question um you know, it's the reason I ask is because it's different for everyone people have a different definition and it's different than success that's why ask about greatness and for me right now and it evolves over time for me right now my definition is cultivating the unique gifts and talents that we're born with to pursue and live our dreams and then make the maximum amount of impact on the world by living our dreams. Wow, amazing great thank you so much. It's been an honor to have you on the show and you know, I really appreciate being able to sit here and have a conversation appreciate you awesome great okay, so um we're to take one minute briefing debriefing because we've got something else happening next uh two people stand up really quickly who want to share what works for you and what didn't work if you two people stand up and go ahead nathan the start so you got thirty seconds what worked? What didn't work for you? We'll work for me it was I mean, we wouldn't see this from the audience perspective but you greeted him with a smile and you I told him that you had some history you bought his first course of stuff that seemed like you set it off on good report. What didn't work for me was maybe because you set it up like this, lewis, you were like how do we get those really deep questions? And I was like, when is he gonna ask about that injury? What was he thinking on the couch? Stuff like that? It was just a limited time offer way if we had ten more minutes from going yeah. Okay, awesome. Thanks. Who wants one more person will work for you. What didn't work for you? Yes, david. So there were a couple of things that worked really well for me. One of the things that I was very impressed by was you started off by giving lewis a chance to promote his book on and that you know, not only that I'm sure that made you more comfortable, right course on dh it also gave you an opportunity to open up some questions around what he was talking about you did some follow up questions and you lead logically through that I thought that was really wonderful um one day lee didn't work for me you didn't look very comfortable and I think that came through in your voice on dit was more of a postural thing you can see looking at lewis he's very comfortable in his body he go you can see you're kind of sitting forward a little bit anxious on dh I think that comes across in the way that that the voice comes through a swell thanks to have appreciate just gotta ask you what did you learn by doing this experience? I mean, it was an honor just to sit here with him because I know I wash its course and that was like my first introduction to louis house and his content and everything you know, I just great like just eye contact he makes and like, you know it just really comforting I think you know, it's been able to stay with them, so I think that was something that I really enjoyed doing with you I'll give him some feedback real quick, so what? I would say it again it was limited time and you know, the whole setup is every last minute, whatever, but what I would say is ask me the question before we again like, say, you know, I really want to make this the best way we can possibly make it. Yeah, is there anything off limits or anything? I want to make sure we don't talk about anything you want to make sure we do cover that would make this a powerful use of your time right now. And I think if you would ask that the rest have been a fine, you know, I mean, we're still fine, but yeah, I think you set me up to know what I'm about to get into it. You know, the setup is the most important thing if we just jump, okay, let's, dive in like I'm down for that. But, you know, some people may not be down for that, right? So just be thoughtful, intentional. Everything before the interview is really important in my mind to set up the rest of it, to be really successful, so great you did great, man. Appreciate it, thank you. Give him.

Wow! This was the first time I watched a tutorial in this format - and LOOOOVE It - The audience was great , love the interactive format and the small group , because everyone gets better interaction face time with the instructor . Of course , I love anything that Lewis does- and would love to thank him and Creative Live for the free month we received as a gift at the Summit of Greatness 2018. Also, before this I actually never heard of Creative Live, so I am grateful to have found out about you guys. Thank you to Lewis and Creative Live - I will for sure taking full advantage (in a nice way :) of my free access. Beautiful!!

Absolutely EXCELLENT Creative Live course. It's funny because I was going through some old emails and I found a promo email to this course when Lewis was first promoting it. I missed out on it the first go around and so seeing this email made me curious if it was still being offered, and it was! I purchased it and went through it in two days (it would have been one day but I had other work to get done :-) Lewis is so amazing as an instructor, I really love how he gives great insight but doesn't see anything as being a "secret". He's all about getting things done through hard work and simply experimenting. He truly shares all in this course! If you are familiar with the podcasting world to some extent and are curious as to how to monetize your podcast, this is for you! Take it and enjoy! -JT
