Back Side Other Functions
Back to the back of the camera. We have our control wheel, and at the top of it, we have our display button. So the display button, if you hit it repeatedly, it will cycle through different information screens, depending on what you want to see. Whether you don't want to see any information or a little bit, or lots of information. And so just hit that display button. Whether you're in the live view mode or in the playback mode, it's gonna cycle through all those different options on views, which will give you information. There is one option that is simply for the viewfinder and not available in the EVF, and that's gonna also have a quick access to all your function buttons there so you very quickly can change your ISO and your focusing mode and your metering mode and all of that very quickly. And then we have our EVF. And if you press the display button while you are looking through the EVF, you will be able to change the different views that you have in there, depending on whether yo...
u want more or less information. On the right side of the dial is our ISO. Now we just talked about the ISO setting that was in the function mode. And so here, we have a direct button that gives us even quicker access to it. And so it's the same options, the same theories, it's just a little bit faster access here. Down below, we have three different icons which allows us to do three different things, depending on the mode that we're in. We can do exposure compensation. This, once again, if it seems familiar, we talked about it in the function button settings. But here we have quicker access to making our pictures lighter and darker. And we also have photo creativity in here. And photo creativity is gonna be used when we have our mode dial set to one of the two automated intelligent or superior mode settings. And so I wanna do a quick little demo just to show you how this works. So first off, I gotta wake my camera up. And I'm gonna turn it over into the intelligent superior or one of the automated modes right there. So we have the intelligent auto mode. And so now, if I press the downward button, once I get into the real shooting mode, press the downward button on this, I can go in and change the brightness if I want. And I can kinda dial up the brightness and I can dial down the brightness. I can come over to the colors. And I can make it a little cooler or I can make it a little warmer. And we have the vividness, the saturation of the situation. I can make little tweaks on it here. And the picture effect is all sorts of filters. If you like Instagram filters, you're gonna have a lot of fun in here. 'Cause there's lots of different things that we can do in here. And I'm gonna leave it at off. But this is all when our camera is in the superior mode or the intelligent auto mode. So either the automated green or orange camera on the top of the camera. You press down, and that allows you to dive in and play with all those other little features in there. And when we get to playback, you'll see the image index allows us to see a whole group of images at one time. Over on the left side of the dial is our drive mode and self-timer. And if this seems familiar, yes, we did talk about this already in the function button controls. And this just gives us direct access to this. And there's a few little tricks here, so let me just show you real quickly. I'm gonna move my camera back to the program mode. Nice, simple mode there. And if I hit the left side of the dial, that activates the drive mode. And now I can go up and down to make several selections. But if you'll notice real closely over here, there are some arrows to the right. So for instance, if I go to the self-timer, there's an arrow to the right there. So if I go to the right, it changes it to a two-second self-timer. And as you go down through all of these, you'll see that there's a variety of arrows and options that you will have in here. And you can set to your needs according to what sort of bracketing you're doing. And I'm gonna make sure that I get my bracketing turned off here by going up here and setting the single one. And so for instance, in the continuous mode, we have a high-speed setting, and we have a low and a medium-speed setting that will be at different frames per second, depending on how fast we want to shoot. And so just realize that you can go up and down and side to side as well when we're doing that. Okay, next up on the camera is our play back. So let's talk about how your camera changes when you start playing back images that you've already shot. So to go from next to previous, you can use either of the main control dials. If you want more or less information about your images, you can always hit the display and you just keep hitting that 'til you cycle through 'til you get to the one that you want. You can see a group of images by hitting the index button and you're basically zooming out, you might say, in this case. If you wanna zoom in, you'll notice there's a little magnifying glass with a plus down there. And this is what you would do for examining a photograph to see if it's as sharp as you would hope or expect it to be. If not, re-shoot and get it nice and sharp. And then we have the option to send to a smartphone. We'll be talking about the wireless system a little bit later in this class, but you can hook this up to a phone to go wireless. And then we have our delete button. So if you wanna junk your images and get rid of 'em, you can do so right there.

I learned more during this class than I did in 4 months of owning the camera ! Finally able to use the focus options properly, including my favorite; Back Button Focus. John is a fantastic teacher, I enjoy all of his classes and his excellent teaching style. Watched all 3 hours of this class in one evening.
