Retouching Workflow Overview

I was really trying hard to capture the same type of look that we have in our hero image for this class. And to be really honest with you, sometimes it's very challenging. Because if you're photographing somebody, even though you can get the lighting correct, and the settings correct and that part of it is kind of a little easier to control. What you can't control is what the person's gonna look like and how they're going to act when they're in front of the camera. So we got really, really lucky because honestly, like he could probably be the guy's son from the, from that title image, so he had the look nailed down pat. So for me it was an easy time. Because getting the lighting, like I said, the technical part of everything that we've talked about during this workshop, I'm hoping that that part of it seems easier. In the beginning when you came into the workshop you probably thought like, wow, this is all like very mystical, and very difficult, and hopefully now you'll look at it and ...

say, okay the technical side is the easy side, the hard part is trying to get an expression like this, which again, we got lucky, it took us just a few moments to get that image. But in reality, when you're shooting in your own spaces, depending on the person you're photographing, it could take you longer. It could take you an hour, two hours. Who knows? So I don't do the mini session stuff. So, anyway, without further ado, let us take a look at this. So this is Alien Skin Exposure X2. This is the newest version of Alien Skin. And I'm gonna open this thing up so you can see all of the tabs and everything that's available to you in this software. So these are actually the raw files that I shot using Capture One where I was tethering. So when you are using Capture One, they're all being dumped into a Capture folder that's saved on your computer. So, unlike many other programs, where you have to import your images into, into the folder, Alien Skin Exposure X2 is very interesting because what it does is, you go into this little folders section here, and I could go to that Capture folder, and I could actually see all of the images that are in there without actually having to import them. So think about how much of a time saver that is. When I'm already tethering into any program, whether it's Lightroom or Capture One or whatever, it's gonna set up that folder, and all of the images are already stored in that folder. So when I get home, I just open Alien Skin Exposure, and all of the images, as you can see on the little timeline here below, all of the images are all there, and they're ready to be evaluated and looked at.

I want to commend you for hosting Miguel Quiles. He is beyond competent and knowledgeable. Light is Light, but It is encouraging to see incredible minority photographers on your platform and to see diversity in the presenters. It is inspirational for minorities to see themselves on the center stage. I sincerely thank you for that. I am buying this course although I am not a mirrorless shooter because of my support of Miguel and the quality of his instruction of which benefits all photographers. He is a great addition to the Creative Live Family of Presenters that I have supported as well. Kudos Creative Live!

Wow! As a Newb and someone looking to get into portrait/studio photography, this course was perfect and comprehensive. SO MUCH GOOD CONTENT. Miguel is so approachable about questions, positive, and thorough in his explanations. This course broke down the gear and technical side very well. I recommend going to a class live. It was a great experience with food and beautiful facilities. The facility has a positive vibe and really encouraged me to be creative. Thank you for the experience and knowledge!
