dial functions. We talked a little bit about this earlier. We were talking about the dial functions of the camera, and so we're gonna be able to adjust and change the controls of the front and the back dial on the camera as far as which one controls the shutter. Which one controls the F stop or the aperture? How it adjust program. Shift in either one direction or the other, and you can also have it control. Flash exposure, compensation. If, of course, you have a flash attached onto the camera itself, and so you can control each of these within the different modes, like Program and aperture Priority and Cheddar priority. So, for instance, in the program mode you can control, actually think we may have the manual option on there. So in the manual option, you can control whether you have the shutter speeds in back or in front. And if you're coming from Canon or Nikon or Pentax or some other brand of camera, you might be very used to shutter speeds or apertures being changed in one particu...
lar place. And this allows you to mimic that style and workings of the other cameras that you might have come from the dial direction. Okay, So little quiz for you here, folks. All right, So if the exposure is over to the plus side at plus two, which means it's over to the right hand side, we want to get that exposure meter back to the left. Right? So we want to go left, right? We're gonna go left now with our controlled ill control wheel were actually going to turn it right in order to correct for that. And if you don't like that, change it to dial number two. And it will seem much more logical in the operation. And so, for anyone who does manual exposure, I highly recommend going to dial two. It'll turn logically according to the meters, as faras, do we need to move left? Or do we need to move right? And so dialled to is a secret to making that camera easier to work with in those manual mounts. All right, the exposure, compensation dial plus or minus. Do you want it to control exposure or flash exposure? Compensation. So, if you were using flash quite frequently with this camera and you wanted to frequently adjust the power of the flash, you could reassign that dial to controlling flash rather than standard exposure. Uh huh. The mode dial function. This is something we played with very early on in the class. Remember, C three and C four can be changed from custom modes to the photo story mode and to the scene mode. So if you like the photo story mode, if you're gonna use those scene modes, you can have C three and C four turned over to those modes, so it's basically reprogramming them into those specific modes.

Awesome course and thorough description of the PEN-F capabilities and functions. HOWEVER, John's "big boy camera" bias comes through when he describes some of the creative functions as "just fun". I highly disagree- because like other tools and features- it depends on HOW the photographer uses the tool or feature. Like HDR, the creative features can be used tastefully or look "overcooked". Film photographers who use a variety of different films in film cameras- is this "just fun", or do they offer creative options? I encourage John and any listeners to look up the Olympus Visionaries and many other professionals using Olympus cameras in their daily work to see the amazing results they create with them. Instead of the same old Nikon and Canon "muscle-flexing" biases- lets look at what the pros produce with the camera tools. All modern cameras are superb and capable of great results. And this PEN-F camera offers groundbreaking control over the image making IN CAMERA at the time of exposure- which can be used to adjust an accompanying RAW file if needed. Not everyone wants to sit in front of a computer for hours doing post processing.

The Pen 5 is an amazing camera - however it is capable of so much that getting to know it can be somewhat overwhelming at first. John systematically and logically works through every part of the camera in really clear and easy to understand steps, quickly converting my initial apprehension into confidence and excitement for the endless possibilities of this camera.
