Class Introduction

Folks, we got a big one today. The Nikon D5, Nikon's top-of-the-line camera, the one that has more features than any other camera, which has actually caused me quite a bit of problems and challenges in putting this class together, because there is a ton of material that we're gonna be going over. So, in general, the idea on this class, is to run you through all the features, functions of the camera, so that you have a really good understanding in how everything works. Now I realize that anybody who owns a camera like this doesn't use everything on it, but you wanna be able to figure out which features use, that you're gonna find most useful and which ones you don't need to worry about and how you wanna get them set. Now, before we get into the class, there's one area that I really kind of struggle with on this camera and that is, is obviously the top line camera, camera that sells for roughly 6,000-plus dollars is gonna attract a lot of people who are very serious whose been using the ...

D4S and the D and the D3's and so forth, so there's a lot of professionals who use this. And so the question comes up, how much should I address some of the basic features of the camera? Are there gonna be people, there's generally not a lot of beginners who use this camera, but there's people who step up fairly quickly. And I figure my job is to teach this camera from anywhere and so, we are gonna cover some of the basics, we're gonna cover some simple stuff. We're not gonna dwell on it, we're not gonna spend a lot of time on it, but my job is to teach the camera, so I'm gonna teach everything that the camera has. And if you already know it, don't get mad and send me a letter, just pat yourself on the back and say, I already knew that and I was right and I'm so smart. That's, I think that's how we should deal with things 'cause we will be going through a lot of stuff, some of it simple, some of very complicated. So, one thing to note before we get into the rest of the class, get my recommended settings. And this is what caused me some problems because this camera's menu system is longer than any camera I've ever dealt with before. Now, it's very similar to the D for those of you who own the D500, but there are a fair number of differences. And so, I have a recommended settings here and I had to change the whole style and I had to use a really small font to get it all on one page because I like the entire menu system on one page. And so I've outlined the entire menu system along with my recommendations that are on here and this is something that we'll be going through in the second half of the class. And then also in here I do have a couple of pages towards the end that has my recommended settings on how I would set the camera for a variety of types of photography. And so that comes with the video of the class as well as the PDF download, so you can see all my slides in the keno, which is where I have, frankly most of my information.

As usual, John Greengo has provided me with a wealth of information, this time to decide on my next Nikon camera purchase. John has a talent for explaining technical aspects in a simply to understand, yet intelligent, language. I feel very lucky to be able to tap into the knowledge of such experts and thank the day I found out about Creative Live. Unfortunately I had to miss a little part of the live broadcast due to international time differences. I will definitely be watching the class again and again (there's so much content). Thanks John and Creative Live. Looking forward to my next class.

Already set the Fn3 button for Voice Memo - easy peasy thanks to this and so many other "buried" ( in the manual ) treasures. Notwithstanding three years with the D4 and one year with the D5, I am substantially more familiar and comfortable with the available tools / features of this amazing camera, Nikon's D5. Thank you, John, for the relaxed, easy-to-follow yet informative, professional instruction - well done!

John Greengo does a fantastic job of going over all the great features of this camera. Yes, there is a lot of information, but the format of the class enabled me to drive right into the features I needed for an upcoming shoot. I am new to Creative Live but this class is showing me the fantastic value of this platform. Happy Shooting!
