Hello and welcome to create of live my name is ken klosterman and I am your host here and this is john gringos nikon lenses the complete guide john gringo you may know him here creative lives in educator extraordinaire he has a landscape and travel photographer as well as leads tours all over the world for many of you photographers out there please help me. Welcome back to the stage, john ringo john always a pleasure to have you here it created by it's always good to be back it's my second home it is it is now you have done so many classes here on creative live about particular cameras but you haven't done too many classes on lens is nonetheless a very big class on linda's. So tell us why this class is important and who it's for well, to be honest with you, this is this is for me. Twenty five years ago I was in college, I had a bottom of the line nikon camera the in two thousand if you want to look up what that one was, I couldn't even afford a single nikon lands. I had a couple of aft...
ermarket lenses and I knew lenses were important and I'd open up that glossy brochure was so nice and had all those lenses and I knew there was a reason for each of those lenses but there was really very scant information about how and why you would use it to the different lenses. And it was really frustrating because I wanted somebody to walk me through this whole lens thing because I knew it was important. Well, fast forward twenty five years today. All right, the information age. The internet is a literal dumping ground of information. It is a landfill and trying to find correct, true, competent information is not easy. Now the internet is filled with bits and fax. So if you want to find out how much a lens ways that's pretty easy. And if you want to find out someone's opinion of the lands that's great. But if you want to find out how to use a lens or a real education it's just very, very challenging. And so I wanted to put together a class that really want somebody through the entire process. And so I hope it hits home with a lot of people because it's designed for somebody who wants to learn it's designed for john gringo himself. Now, john, is this class for people who might be looking to by new lenses that want to know more about the lenses or for somebody who wants to know more about how to use the lenses that they have. Well, it's it's going to be a bit for both because I know a lot of people are always looking for that next lens to solve that next problem, but they're also wanting to get the most out of the equipment that they have, and so we're going to do a little bit of buying tips in this class and it's going to be about choosing the right lens from the camera store on right, choosing the right lens from your camera bag and using it properly in its best way to get the most out of it. So we get a little bit of both in there, and this is probably a good time to mention that I am not sponsored nikon photographer I don't get any money from nikon, I'm not sponsored, I don't work for any of the camera stores, and so I don't have any agenda when I'm talking to you about lenses, and so I'm free to say whatever I want to say on there are some negative things that I'm certainly going to say about nikon lenses and some very positive things, too, but we're going to talk about third party lenses and it is a it's an open platform in this class, we're gonna talk about everything in a very frank and open, plain way. Absolutely thank you for saying that and thank you again for being here, john why don't you tell us a little bit more about what we're going? Teo learn what's in store for us in this class, okay, so let me give you the quick rundown of what we're going to be doing in the class here. I've broken it into several different parts so that we can thoughtfully walk through the process from the beginning to the end and I know all of you have some experience with lenses and photography, but I do just kind of want to cover some of the basics. This is not a photo one one class, so we're not going to cover a lot of those basics, but we are going to make a brief passed by some of those just to make sure everybody's up on the same well and the first thing we need to talk about before we get into which lens should I buy is what the focal links do and why would I use one focal length over the other? So we need to understand that before we get into the lenses themselves and of course aperture is closely involved. How bright of aperture door I need what sort of setting things do I need to make about the aperture in the lens itself one of my favorite sections which some of you might consider a bit of a ah grind is features in the technology section because this is where we get into how does nikon make their lenses and what is all this all these letters on the winds tell you something nikon is very fond of the alphabet and they have all sorts of letters and we're going to get him all straightened out and you'll understand him very easily at the end of the section we're going then get into the actual lenses themselves so we have a whole section we're going to talk about every lens that nikon makes very briefly but we'll talk about every lens we're gonna go through the zoom lenses and they were going to go through the prime lenses we'll talk about the aftermarket lenses and they're a swell and I will be drawing comparisons I'll say this is a better by then this one if this is what you want to do for instance after that we're gonna be going in tow lens accessories and this isn't just bling for the lenses thes air actual tools that will help you out and improve many different types of photos then we're going to go into one of my favorite sections, which is specialty lenses which are the fisheye and the macro until shifters nikon calls from the perspective control ins is what you can do with those and even though you may not have a particular interest in buying one of these lenses I think two things number one understanding how they work can help you with the other types of lenses that you're using, but also it's just fun and interesting and it's great to know the entire realm of the craft that you are involved in, and so I think, it's just for good, for general awareness of nothing else, and then finally, we're going to have a section on building a system we're going to talk about buying linds is choosing the right lands. I know a lot of you have very specific questions about what's, the best portrait lens or what's, the best sports lands, and so for portrait sports and landscape, I'm going to give you collection of best lenses for different types of purposes and different types of budgets, and we'll talk about a bunch of other things, including buying and selling your lens. Outstanding class! This is a must own. You will refer back to this class many times during your photog career. John has put a ton of work into this class and it shows. Being able to download the slides and other Nikon glass info is wonderful. Even if you're not a Nikon shooter you will still gleam tons of information from this class, John covers in great detail the strength and weaknesses of each lens and when you might consider using it. I was expecting a good class, but this turned into an epic class. I watched multiple videos several times. The only bad thing I can say is I "had" to order a few more lenses! Thank you John Greengo for making a truly amazing class.

Wow! What a course! Very in depth, lots of valuable information. John instructs with great knowledge and integrity. I have taken other online courses, NOT from Creative Live (my bad!) and was left feeling like a monkey who had learned tricks without understanding or knowledge. Now I feel I have the confidence to move forward on my photographic journey securely knowing how lenses function, what to look for and what price range I can expect. Bravo John! I'd love to see a 2020 update video as an addendum.
