The Journey Of You

We're going to talk about the journey of you write so we've been doing this for thirty days hopefully you've been following along watching at work when you're supposed to be working but you're probably supposed to be working now you're paying attention here so that you can take that leap and start your own photography business or just take your business to that next level so this eyes really the culmination of all that and what I want you to do as we go through these next two segments is I really want you to think about what questions you have that you've been building up for over the last thirty days get those questions into the chat room because these guys are gonna help make sure I get those questions but more importantly what I want you to do is start thinking about where you're going next what's after today we're in january the time is now to start thinking about twenty fifteen right it's a perfect time if ever you wanted to reboot your business if ever you wanted to re brand your...

business if ever you wanted to redo your website change your style now is the time right the first quarter of the year for all photographers almost everywhere on the planet is the slower time of year obviously for in different parts of the world australia maybe this is your busy time but this is the time for you to start focusing on what you're going to do this year and so in the spirit of that this is the journey of you this segment I really want to talk about aa few things that we've kind of covered but just go a little bit, you know, high level what's next what are we talking about next? This has been an incredible course in my opinion because we've outlined everything for you and what's been amazing for me and I want to thank everyone out there it's been really amazing for me is to see all that feedback where people have been following me for three, four, five years who are riding me going I've been watching everything you've ever done and I'm still learning new stuff and that's important to me as an educator, the last thing I want to do is an educator is get up on this stage or any stage for that matter and keep teaching the same broken record, right? I mean, because then you're not learning you're not growing and I think what allows us to do that is the fact that we run an active photography studio, so the information I'm sharing with you is ninety nine percent of the time real time information it's what we're doing in our actual business in our studio so kind of keep that in the back your head I think that's important as you're you're learning but this becomes that you know it's a thirty day course but this becomes that blueprint for twenty fifteen this is what you should be focusing on right? So if you bought the course, watch it over and over and over again if there is a segment like the facebook marketing watch that over and over and over again we're going to cover that and how some of you have had massive success with that more than likely after watching for the last thirty days you're overwhelmed that's a good thing that's actually what I'm good at I am good at overwhelming people I am good at blowing your business up by throwing a grenade in it everything you thought you were doing right you're now going shit what do I need to do to change all this on dh that's my job I'm your coach okay? I don't know and that's selling snake oil right? I'm your coach I want you to be better I want you to push yourself I want you to do things you never thought possible before if I've done that success is mine right then I then I enjoyed being on educator but here's the reality you have a choice to make now you've been watching for thirty days you know what I made? I made a facebook post on my side the other day are you going to sit around and keep talking about doing things are you going to make twenty fifteen that year? You actually go out and make it happen? The choice is yours. I can put all the information out there. I can tell you what I think you should do. I can tell you how to do it. I can lead you to the water, but I can't make it drink. So you got to stop making excuses. Now is the time to get out there and do something that to me is the biggest risk. The risk of doing nothing in your business is the biggest risk here. Now, if you want to be ah, an amateur photographer, and not make money and you just want to do it for friends and family. That's fine, you probably watches course and you like that. Guy's crazy. I don't want to do anything like that. And that's. Fine. I accept that feedback. There's definitely something wrong with me mentally there's? No, I think my team would agree with most of that, but at the end of the day, there's truth in what I said, and so now is the time. Don't sit back and do nothing. You'll lose another year to your business, I promise you, because once we start getting into june it's over, if you're thinking about going after seniors, now is the time you wait another thirty days forty five days you're going to miss that window of opportunity to make high school seniors a reality. You wait another thirty, forty five days and you're a wedding photographer. You're gonna miss all those bridal shows you're gonna miss all those marketing opportunities people are planning. December is the number one month for weddings people are planning their weddings now. We just had a bridal show this past weekend way to show with fifteen hundred brides this past weekend because december is the number one month for engagements you can't wait till june to go. Yeah, I should probably look at doing more weddings. Now is the time we got to get going. And so what I want to do is talk throughout this segment is how do we take all this information? I know I gave you a lot information over the thirty days. How do we take all this information and put it into practice? That is what you have to be asking yourself there's so much information. I saw all of you posting pictures online of the notes you were taking on it's overwhelming. And now you look at this a giant list of paper notes and things that are circled and things you have to do and things you're taping to your mirror how do you take those and put an action plan together? That's the part I want to talk about today what should you be attacking over the next thirty days? What should you be attacking over the next sixty nine? You have to have a plan that's why most people freeze right? It's analysis paralysis we used to call when we're in corporate and so anybody who's got a corporate background. You know what that term means? You've got so much data, you can't move on it, it scares you to death. You just look at all that you're like. What do I do first? Well, that's, what I want to talk about today I want to talk about how we take all the things you've learned and figure out boom here's what we're gonna do in the next thirty years were going doing next sixteen, ninety one year and I think that will help you bring it all together. God, facebook is such a dangerous place, isn't it? Or social media in general all too often I go out there and it's just the land of stool when I'm on social media, I just watched the things that people say and it is incredible incredible to me and I know some of you guys have to agree with me when you're when you're going go on social media, they're just people who are negative for the sake of being negative doesn't matter what you're talking about doesn't matter what you're doing they will come up with a reason why it won't work again you have a choice to make you have to break away from that pack if you want to be successful in business you know is not gonna help you those negative people they're not gonna help you they don't want you to be successful in fact success scares the crap out of him right? The thought of being successful scares the crap out of him that's the reality they don't know how to be successful you understand being successful is a habit it is truly a habit just like failing is a happy feeling is absolutely a habit you know, people in your lives who no matter what they do they fail we all know those people so how do you become that person who no matter what you do you're successful business is not complicated I promise you it is not complicated we as humans tend to overcomplicate business what is business all about? You have a product or service that somebody wants to spend money on that's it basics you have to make sure that if you have a product or service that you want to sell, you have to make sure that the people buying with the dollars see the value in your product or service but if you're doing the same crap that everybody else is doing what's the difference I'm selling water bottles well is the same as every other water bottle out there so how much you willing to pay for the same water bottle as little as possible you're gonna go to walmart I just want to save money I'm making cost decisions well this is a nuclear reactor water bottle that's got lasers in it it'll park your car and do your dry cleaning would you be willing to pay more money for that water bottle of course we would who doesn't want a nuclear reactor water bottle right do you see where I'm going with this you've got to shake it off stop listening to bay negative people if you've got negative people around you whether it's in facebook groups whether it's in your own personal life you've got to create distance from those people I'm sorry to tell you it's cancers to your mindset being successful in business is a mindset and we've got to get rid of those people we have to blaze our own trail where do you want to be where you out there want to be with your business I'm not going to be the one who tells you it can't be done I'll never tell you it can't be done okay I've been doing things against all odds my entire life and so I'm never gonna be the one to tell you it can't be done instead I'm gonna tell you how to do it but whatever it is you want to do, you can do it, just get rid of the people who are negative in your life because they're going to make you believe that you can't do it, so we gotta break away from the pack. We've got to break everything that we've been learning into manageable chunks. So if you've got this list to do list of, like, one hundred items and I don't know what you're to do list look like I think we talked about it on one of the segments of a programme called one note by microsoft and there's tons of maps out there, but it's basically, I can have it on my iphone, my ipad in my computer and it's all in sync. It's called one note, and whenever I'm feeling overwhelmed and yes, I feel overwhelmed, too. Whenever I'm feeling overwhelmed. What I do is I put I just sit down, grab a cup of coffee quiet place could be a starbucks. I know it doesn't seem like a quiet place, but free of distraction, I should say, sit down and just do a brain dump, everything that comes to your mind that has to be done every level of detail, okay, uh, I would I would recommend this is a way of just managing life. And so within your business okay I need to update my website I'm just giving an example it's not enough to just put I need to update my website I need to update my website you need to have my address current I need to make sure my phone number's there I need a new profile picture on my website I need to change the copy on my website I haven't refreshed my pictures on my website you see where I'm going with this and then the next thing you know you're looking at this list of two hundred plus items now you're overwhelmed now you're going great just overwhelmed me analysis paralysis I'm not gonna do anything I'm just gonna look at this list and want to cry that's where we got to get over that hump we have to break it into manageable chunks what do I need to do in thirty days? Sixty days ninety days this is making sense first step that's we just talked about the master to do list you have to put a master to do list together so whatever you're working on stop because to start doing things without that master to do list you're missing kind of the missing link of it all this is the part that really brings it all together because it helps you understand here's everything I'm looking at and that master to do list is a living document it will change every day so if I'm sitting on a plane, I'm looking at my master to do list, which by the way is why I like this one no doubt because I don't have to always flip up my computer I can now do this sitting at the airport sitting in the starbucks have an idea I don't know about you guys if you're driving somewhere, I get ideas all the time and then I never forget those ideas I got tired of forgetting my ideas I'm like, damn it, I had this great idea I knew it was gonna be a good idea and I forget what it is I knew I had something to do, but what was it I can't remember? And so what I do is I will just if if I have that on my phone, I'm just going to sit there and just jot down a little note, you know, remember to call bob about this, right? So I've got all that stuff they're forming, so you've got to start managing this and it has to become a way of life I promise you on def, where did this all come from? Franklin covey so I was going to get asked what books I have read and things like that when I was at when I first came into corporate america, I worked for procter and gamble that was my first job and the coolest thing about proctor and gamble is when you start the job you don't you don't really start work when you start your job procter and gamble they send youto procter and gamble college and you go to pete you take png wanna one you actually learn the history of the company but one of the most important things I ever learned from my time at procter and gamble was time management ninety nine percent of artists are horrible a time manage management right there like a squirrel see that right we were oh I got I gotta answer facebook right? You hear that day I'm still guilty of it I'm working at my station at work I've got my one of my laptop up I've got my phone and then I've got my my editing machine right? So I got three machines so to speak and then there's a ding right whether it's facebook, instagram notification it doesn't matter what I'm doing I'm immediately and I pull out my phone and my you have look what someone so right I just want five minutes and that starts happening over and over again to all of us and so we really have to learn and understand time management all right? So I want to share with you guys something because obviously we were here and I don't know if everybody out there knows how this all works we filmed all this about thirty days ago I was grinding days, we were in here for about ten to twelve hours a day filming I was going home after filming, working till about one or two in the morning, adjusting content based on what happened the day before to keep this fresh for all of you on. So when I came off air and the episodes were airing, one of the time my inbox was getting blown up, facebook was getting blown up facebook groups who are popping up all over the place for me to answer questions in, but one thing got sent to me, and I want to cover this. Somebody sent me an email, and it doesn't matter who on I'm not going to make you read this entire e mail, by the way, so they're going show that on screen, I'm sure, but I'm going to show you kind of some excerpts from the email and you'll understand why I'm sharing this with you in a second, and so let me read this to you. Uh, so this person sent me an email there photographer they found us on creative, live here's what they said, and I'm just pulling out excerpts from the email I found you teaching on creative live I thought you were harsh, a bit cocky and wondered if you were just the salesman trying to sell your online courses. I was right you can be harsh and you do want to sell your online courses the thing is everything you were saying made sense and was what I was looking for now I don't know how many of you out there think I'm probably a little cocky little arrogant but that means you don't know me you don't understand the spirit of who I am and so let's let's pause for a second because this email does and well it was it made me smile after I read it when I first read this I was like oh man, I got another thing I hate more hate mail I get enough hate mail as as it is here's the thing I'm really not here to make friends with you I love all of you I want you to be successful but I'm your business coach and so if you've ever played sports in your life you understand exactly what I'm talking about if you've never played sports in your life I am the meanest person you've ever met but if you've ever played sports you understand I'm your coach I love you I want you to be successful that's why I'm standing here I'm not standing here because I want to be cocky I'm not standing here because I want to be harsh I'm standing here because it's all in good love I'm sharing that information so you can be successful and so let's go with that if that's how you were feeling out there I'm misunderstood uh yeah I'm completely misunderstood I am a little harsh I'm direct him to the point but I'm a native new yorker and so if we got something to say we say we move on it's never personal but here's how we ended the e mail which I thought was awesome I've learned a lot watching your online courses I learned that your harshness is honesty yes your cockiness is your nature your natural competitiveness and the fact that you are successful also your wanting to sell comes across with the howto help others do the same exactly we're not just here to sell you something I'm here to help you make money if buying the scores from one ninety nine is the worst thing that I try and push on you and you go out and make thousands of dollars kind of a win win, isn't it you truly want to pass on the good and make a positive difference with others thank you I will be a success one day and a big part of it is because of you and I hope to call you a friend that's an awesome email and so if you're sitting out there and you're watching all this and you're missing the messaging rewatch you've got to re watch because the messaging is there we're trying to help you that's what this is all about the more successful you are, and the more you share those success stories with me and that's. Why today we're gonna hear from peers, not just me. You don't have to hear from me about how this works is, maybe you don't believe me. That's, fine. Listen to your peers who are doing this stuff and are experiencing success with it.

Sal isn't disgruntled and angry like someone below said, and he doesn't have time for people constantly whining about why their business isn't going good. He's from Brooklyn, so he can come across as harsh at first, but after watching several of his classes and even getting to meet him in person and talk a bit I can tell you he is a really nice guy who truly does want you to succeed. He was very encouraging to me after I thanked him for helping me and my business get to where it is now. Growing up, I can remember photographers grabbing us and posing how they wished. They are often in a hurry to get things right, such as at a wedding, so I am not sure why one reviewer stated he would dismiss them. Sounds like he is just looking for a reason to feel powerful. Anyway, this is a great class to get you on track with your business. Yes, its a bit wedding heavy, but the concepts are the same no matter what. Just apply them to your niche and you are good to go.

Amazing course. Sal is such a great photography educator. Terrific course. I'm not usually big on watching business courses, but this course as taught by Sal was terrific. Down to earth, entertaining, packed with real life experiences do's, don'ts and lessons learned. This courses business A to Z and Sal is very entertaining to watch/listen to. Thanks CreativeLive for getting Sal.

I have been a long time fan of Creative Live and have sat on the fence with all of Sal's classes because I already attend Shutterfest every year and get loaded with valuable information there, so it was hard to pull the trigger on a $300 course that was filmed 5 years ago. Also, in my earlier days of hearing about Sal, I'd heard a lot of negative opinions about how he comes across. Still, I'd heard he's a marketing guru, and my background is in marketing as well, so I really wanted to see what this class was all about. Now that I've finally gotten it, I'm completely blown away. There is just SO MUCH MATERIAL in this class that its actually difficult trying to decide what to implement first! It is good stuff too. It is all about marketing, sales, and workflow. If you're looking for a class teaching you how to take better photos, this one is not it. This is the class that teaches you how to get your work where everyone is seeing it and convincing people to book you and tell their friends about you! Now as far as others have already said... this class is definitely geared toward wedding photographers. Yes there are bits of information that work for other types of photography, but it is so heavily wedding oriented that there might be a better fit out there for another type of photographer. If you do weddings though, this is an amazing class! As far as Sal's personality goes.... he's a New Yorker transplanted to St. Louis. So expect that NYC no BS type of attitude. Susan Stripling is another one of my favorites and she is similar in attitude (and also extremely talented), so if you like her, you should like this. If you have a hard time with her, you might have a hard time with this. Regardless, its stuff y'all need to hear and implement to be successful. Obviously because the class is a bit older, you may have to make small tweaks to a few things (even though he says don't jack with the recipe), but the marketing principles are solid and timeless. Shoot this course is worth it for the SEO advice alone. Just buy it already!
