Editing and Storytelling
So now that we've talked about exposure um and light and color and how those things affect the emotion of your photo. Now, I want to talk about how those things affect the story of your photo and what story that that image is trying to tell. And essentially the thought processes that people go through when they see that image. So when it comes to photography, a lot of the storytelling is gonna come from the actual content in the image. You know, um if there's a person in the image that's gonna tell a much different story, if there's no person in the image, um the content of the photo, you know, has a lot to do with the story, but of course this is of course on editing. So we're not talking about the content of the photo, We're talking about the editing of the photo. And in order for me to best explain how editing can greatly impact the story of your photo. I want you to take a look at these two photos here, next to each other. So in this photo we have a girl running into the forest, sh...
e might be running away from something or maybe she's running towards something, depending on how you you imagine it. So on the left here, we have a really dark image, a lot of deep colors, a lot of deep tones. And on the right we have this bright, bright and airy kind of image. So when I look at these two images next to each other, I see a very different story here. Like I said on the left, I see maybe she's running from something, but on the right I see maybe she's running towards something. It's a completely different story. And this is just one example. Um you can do this with any photo, you can take any of your photos And you can edit them in two different ways or three different ways or 10 different ways. This is something I often do. I create many different versions of one photo. Um and I and I look at them and I think about how they make me feel, what story are they telling? And I send them to people that I know people that I care about, and I ask them what they think. Um And that is a really good way to see the thought processes behind your photo. The thought processes that people go through and the stories that they might think about when they see that photo. So like I said, storytelling a lot of it is the content of the photo. But you can drastically change the story based on the edits um in post production
