Edit Page

So let's have a little tour of the Edit Page itself. If you're just opening Resolve for the first time or maybe if this is your first time editing a video, this might look a little overwhelming. Why are there two screens? We only ever watch one screen. What are all these things down here? Why is this? Who is this? Who am I? Well, it's okay, we're gonna dive into this. Really, everything here in the edit page is focused on one major concept, that we are putting together our story inside of the Timeline. The Edit Page is where we put all of our different video clips together, put them into a sequence that is in a certain order that tells the story. So the interface is broken up into different panels, and each panel has a specific job. A lot of these panels can be opened or closed with these buttons up here at the top of our interface, for instance, our Media Pool is on the left hand side here and if I click this Media Pool button, that will open it and close it. And the Effects panel wil...

l kind of switch out with the Media Pool if you have that closed. And so it's just good to know that you can hide and show different panels by clicking these buttons here at the top of the interface. Same thing over here on the right, we have our audio mixer, which we can hide or show right here. Our Metadata, which is all kinds of different notes about whatever clip we have selected, and then the Inspector. The Inspector is a place we're gonna be spending a lot of time, basically whatever you have selected in your project, you can adjust the details here in the Inspector. Speaking of that, this panel right here is called the Media Pool, and this is where everything in your project lives. We can take things from here and double click on them and look at them a little bit more detailed way here in this left viewer. This is called the Source Viewer. This is where we view different sources. So different little pieces of video. After that, we can take these clips and put them into the Timeline down here which is where we're actually going to, kind of, build that story piece by piece. This is where you wanna put anything that you want your audience to actually see. Speaking of that, in the upper right hand corner here we have our Timeline viewer. This is the preview of what your project is actually gonna look like. And then in the middle of our interface here we have our various tools. So we can switch our mouse to something like a razor blade and cut our clips, things like that. We're gonna dive into each of these panels a little bit more here in a minute but for now, if you can get the concept that the Edit Page is where we put our story together, you're gonna be doing great.

This is a great class! Probably my favorite Creativelive class so far. I've been a fulltime photographer for 13 years now, I guess it's about time I get back into video. I love that Resolve has a free version to learn on. The pace of this class was perfect, can't wait to watch the rest of Casey's DaVinci classes.

Thanks to Casey Faris for the interesting study material. I have been looking for a creative life course for DaVinci Resolve for a long time and I am very happy that one has already been created on your platform. I look forward to the other pieces. Thanks again for the shared knowledge!

I've seen many DaVinci tutorials that seem to just make things more confusing but Casey's tutorial really took a simple step-by-step explanation to really show how powerful and yet simple it is to use Davinci. The tools Casey covered in this course gave me the confidence to edit the ton of videos I have collecting dust on my hard drive. Great job Casey and a great sense of dry corny humor...lolol highly recommended!!
