Cooking a Story
When you're just learning video editing, it's really easy to get kind of overwhelmed with all the details of, you know, what shots do I use and how do I create these effects and everything. Here's all you really need to know. Editing is like making a story, And to make this a little bit more fun and because I'm a little bit hungry right now what we're gonna be doing is talking about cooking a story, the steps that we are taking to edit our film are kind of analogous to the steps that you would take to actually make some soup. Go with me here. It's gonna be okay. Think about it. If you were gonna make soup, how would you do it? Well, the first thing that you would need would be ingredients. So you'd go to the store and you'd get whatever ingredients you need and then you'd take them back and you'd put them in your pantry or your fridge and have them on hand anytime that you wanted to cook something. Then when it's time, you take each ingredient out and you look at it, make sure it's exa...
ctly how you want. Maybe you cut it up and you'll combine it with the other ingredients to taste good to actually make the dish that you're trying to make. That whole thing's a process, just like editing is a process. And we actually do a similar thing with video editing. Just like you go to the store to get ingredients you would go out and shoot or you would grab any kind of footage that maybe somebody else has shot that you wanna put into your movie. Then just like you would take the ingredients home and you would put them in your cabinet. We need to bring all of the video clips that we've shot into Resolve and have them on-hand, have them ready to use in our story. Then we can take each clip, make sure that it's exactly the way that we want. And then we combine it with the other clips to taste good. Right? And together with the right techniques and proportions, we make something that is really good at the end of the day.

I've seen many DaVinci tutorials that seem to just make things more confusing but Casey's tutorial really took a simple step-by-step explanation to really show how powerful and yet simple it is to use Davinci. The tools Casey covered in this course gave me the confidence to edit the ton of videos I have collecting dust on my hard drive. Great job Casey and a great sense of dry corny humor...lolol highly recommended!!
