Shoot: Introduction to Shooting With Dogs
I'm gonna be shooting at five six I think we'll start off with group let's see how this looks. And if they wanna come in we can get our subjects. And I love on this, I wasn't using it earlier, but for hand holding... this is also from Spider Holster. It's just a little extra security to make sure my camera doesn't drop. Or my hand doesn't slip out. Hi, guys! Oh, I get to see your sweet dog. Oh my goodness, I love it. I love it, I love it. So what I'm thinking. And actually what we'll do is we'll get all the kiddos maybe first with the dog. And then we'll add you guys in. So this is Valentino. So let's start off. Let's just get Valentino. Hey, buddy. (laughs) How much does Valentino weigh? About 130? He is not small. Is that your best bud? You know what we'll do? I know these guys are buddies. Maybe we'll try to get the two of them first and then we'll add the rest of the kids. So we're gonna actually bring him... Is he allowed on furniture? Yeah. We're gonna let him sit on that cou...
ch. He is gonna be king today. (laughter) Well I bet he'll sit up with you, sweetheart. (laughs) (kids talking) And then Chris, I'll probably have you next to me. Oh, look at that. Who is that? Oh my goodness, we are gonna just see what happens. (camera clicks) Actually, can we lower that light a little bit? Just lower it down? So we're gonna lower this light down a little bit. It's a little too high. (camera clicks) Can you give Val a hug? Oh, yup, that's alright. That's okay. Can you give Val a hug? Is that your best buddy? Is that your best buddy? (camera clicking) Hi! Hi! Do you like to lay on Valentino? Do you like to huggle him and snuggle him? No, no? Can you give Valentino a hug? Can you give Valentino a hug? Can you give Valentino a kiss? Give him a kiss. (laughs) Sweetie, can you sit next to him and snuggle? Oh, give him hugs. Perfect. (laughs) He's so big. There we go. Oh don't fall off, don't fall off. Oh my gosh, Valentino! (blows kiss) Oh yeah, you're coming down. Okay, let's get all the kiddos up there. Guys, come on. And what I really want is just snuggly with your dog. So kind of hug him, laying on. And then actually, let's switch you guys so all the white's not on one side. Perfect, that's great. And then Ky, you can sit right there, sweetie. I have those squeakers somewhere. Someone went to grab... Yup, perfect. I got one, I found one. Okay sweetie, I'm gonna have you sit down with your sweet dog. Sit down with your sweet dog. He's so big. (laughs) (squeaks) Perfect. Kyomi, can you go back by your pup? Go get Val. (squeaks) And then I need... Ky, look right at me, bud. And then let's see... He just lets you do whatever. He's so sweet. And then lay down on him. I love it. Ky, can you lay your head on your sister? (Kyomi laughing) Sit next to us. So yeah, I will set something up to get her in the foreground with the lighting. Right now I don't have it set up to do that shot but it was still cute. So I need Ky, don't hide from me. There we go. Yup. (laughs) Ky, can you lay down on your dog? Can you lay your head down on him? (babies yelling) Oh, too much. Put your head up a little bit? (squeaker) Ky, turn up a little bit. I'm losing it. Right there, you can lay your head down a little more. (squeaks) What's that? It's my nose. Do you wanna try it? Oh, wait. No, it was your nose! (laughs) (squeaks) (baby laughing) No, you're so smart. Here, I'll keep it. You can play with it at the very end. So here, you know what, sweetie? Can you sit next to Ky? Can you sit next to Ky? Sit next to him, yup. Actually, and then mom and dad, I'll probably bring you guys in here in one second. There, that's awesome. Oh, I love that. That's much better. You guys are doing so good. Okay, everybody snuggle, snuggle, snuggle, huggle. Oh, can you give Valentino the treat? Go give him the treat. Go give it to him, he's so hungry. He's so hungry, he's so hungry. Go give it to him. You guys all lean in on the dog. Lean in on each other. Snuggle up. Get up there, get up there. You know what? Kyomi, can you stand up? Can you stand tall? (laughs) Kyomi, can you stand up tall? Let's actually add you guys into this. Let's add you guys. So mom and dad, why don't you go stand behind the couch? Oh wait, now she's sitting up. Hold on. Okay, Chris, sneak aside. There we go. Good job, dad. (laughs) So awesome. We're gonna do some without the couch too. I think it's gonna work out. But let's try a couple more. Okay. So, actually Sophie... You know what would be cute? If maybe Kyomi can stand? You can help hold her. I feel like I'm losing her behind the dog too much. Actually let's do that. They can sit on the top of the couch, actually. You got some slobber? (laughs) Okay, and stand tall! Stand tall on the couch. How tall can you be? That's awesome, I love that. You can do that. You're the tallest one in the picture. Oh, Kyomi. Everybody looking right here. Oh yeah, I love that. Looking right at Miss Vicky. See if you can hold Kyomi up for one. See if you can hold her up tall. Kyomi, hi pumpkin. Oh no. Okay, there she is. Ky, you can sit up a little taller. I know you're snuggling your dog. There we go, I love that. Everybody's looking up here. Pull Kyomi's shirt down just a little bit. (squeaking) Everybody look at each other, everybody look at each other. Get Kyomi up, there we go. Perfect. Ryleigh, right here. Perfect, snuggle on the dog. Everybody look at Valentino. He's so cool. I love that.

All I have to say is - Vicki you are a saint. To handle four kids, dog and their parents too, not to mention a class of students watching...AND YOU'RE TAKING PHOTOS, GOOD ONES!! All I know is, I could not handle that as you have even though I was a teacher for 25 years (K-12, all of them) - and wonderful people like you are far and few between. May you stay healthy and happy and continue interacting with kids and parents - you really have a talent! (I had to turn the sound off on the vid because it was driving me crazy,, with kids, dog, etc etc!)

It was true to life and yes, a bit chaotic. But I enjoyed it, it shows the work that often does go into a session with all the multitasking. I got some great ideas for poses, and learned some new way to interact with younger children. Thank you for a honest session and not a perfect planned one.
