Shooting Q and A

my question is, do they make that motor for the six yet, or dick? Any amount of six on that? Um, I don't know if the insert for it. These have little multiple different inserts. Okay, so there would be the same one. But the insert is what would be specific to a particular brand of camera. So six plus may not They would have to come up with a different one because you can see the size of this. I don't think it even would allow Ah Phablet to fit into this device. And I think there's probably room. They would have to do some special stuff to get the six because of the additional whip. But it's a very good question. I don't know whether they'll be coming out with another one. I'm sure if they do need to, there probably be coming up with one that is a little bit heavier duty for these bigger phones, But it's an awesome device. And again, the fact that it's open source code means that anybody can control it through their out. That's great questions from our online audience, since things like...

image stabilization are now in software on the device. Do we still maintain those features? Been using the clip on Sony Devices? Do we still need? Yeah, because the idea of stabilization, the stabilization for everything but the IPhone six plus ISS software stabilized. It's great because it's using multiple shots to do it. It's not just what, typically software stabilization on something like a pocket camera. What they do is they crank the I S o sensitivity way to the roof and they shoot it a super high speed, so it's not really stabilized. It's just very high speed because it can tell low light, which means it degrades the image quite a bit. This is better than that because it's using all sorts of secret sauce to do that. It's still not the same as a gyroscope that moves either the sensor or the lens to drew to do what would be optically stabilized. So, um, the both the Sony The interesting thing is Sony is those air optically stabilized and it throws on like you saw five shot image to Not in that case, it's not as much to stabilize it as to get noise reduction to do low lights with actually doing pixel averaging to get rid of noise. It cancels out noise by sampling between different shots. So no, we want. Eventually, all the cameras are gonna be optically stabilized. There's as cool as the software is. The concept of getting rid of camera shake not having motion. Basically, having a built in tripod is where we're going, and it is a benefit in thes. Sony's actually do the optical stabilization for video, and that is a benefit from shooting video, because that again, is going to be stabilizing as you're moving through a scene. So as great as the software stabilization built into the IPhone on optically stabilized video camera is even better because you're not needing toe sample and get rid of this. We did this in the aerial class. We showed how to use things like Premiere Pro to get rid of to do software stabilization for video. It's great. It's not as good as Optical. So will definitely still be looking for that. Awesome. Um, when doing K Mac wants to know when doing in camera processing, is there a history graham or LCD calibration system to ensure accuracy? There is no, um that I know of camera calibration in terms of making all IPhones identical. Um, they've done it their own. Obviously manufacturing calibration. There are history grams through a number of the different APS. They'll shoot with a live hissed a gram, which is right now again, Apple in IOS eight has opened up basically all the controls for the camera to software developers. Afterward, we use pro camera will show you filmic pro for video so you can do a ton of stuff in terms of white balance. I s o shutter speed from all these things, but in terms of calibrating it, um, I don't know of anyone you know, even the typical calibrate er's that work with monitors, computers or high end cameras. Your SL ours will allow you to upload a custom profile for your camera and I don't know, one that would do it at the kind of basically firmware level to calibrate it. Good question. They're remarkably accurate. And again, that would be another reason with all the different mobile phones and mobile cameras out there. If you do searches for the comparisons of the Apple IPhone in comparison to the current crop of things like the Galaxies and others, it has continually come out on top and color fidelity is one of its top points. Cool. Can you control the Q X lends from an IPad? Yes, it's completely it. It's got no problem for working in that. It would look kind of funny. That would be kind of fun to go out in the scene and jury rigged this up. So you're shooting with this Actually be really fun. If you take that, put that on there and then throw, uh, you know, hood over you like you're shooting with a large format camera. I've always wanted to do the shove this into a wooden box and put a curtain over my head and shoot it like, anyway. So, yes, it doesn't matter what device it is. Android IOS, tablet IPhone. It's WiFi you like, I said, You can put this outside in, you know the winner and have it shoot your little bird house and you're inside in the nice warm house, controlling focus and everything else. Awesome. One more question from Irwin. How large of a print can you get with the IPhone? Five s never tried to print my photos. You can do it toward the end of the day, we're going to talk about some what I call jiggery pokery. And through photo shop, there are APS that now blow up the resolution of the image. Basically, to do a print, you're going to do what's known as interpret late the image up, Have it create pixels that weren't there and do so intelligently by doing pixel sampling. Um, but the default eight megapixel camera you could easily do in 11 by 14 without any problem whatsoever. But it really And like I said, even the five s. If you shoot a panorama, you can shoot over 20 megapixel file so you can shoot Panorama, as you know, very large. These are both IPhones, these air both coming from neither these air Pano. So both of these are eight megapixel files. I did interpret late thes up for the printouts, but you'd be hard pressed to see pixels on either one of these. So it answer your question depending upon how you interpret ate it up to the file size you need for the printing that you're going to do would determine how big you can print. I'll give you a couple tips. The default setting that most people say you need for a print 300 pixel parents resolution is totally erroneous. If you're printing to something like a canvas rap or the watercolor paper, you can get down to 150 pixels prints, which is gonna allow you to double the height there with of the file, make it four times bigger simply by not needing 300 pixels prints, and you really don't unless you're printing onto a glossy stock or metallic paper. You really don't need 300 pixels perch, especially for something that's gonna be viewed from a little bit of a distance. If you go into footer shop, then you can actually blow it up. And these right here are 300 pixels per inch, um, over 100 megabyte files, and that's using the brand new photo shop CC automatic interpolation. It's a brand new feature in the current photo shops that do excellent pixel interpolation. But that was some sharpening, and like I said, a little bit of secret sauce and you can do large prints. There you can dio probably a two foot by three foot print. Um, if you if you know what you're doing, even from an eight megapixel file

Along with showing a large number of beautiful photographs, Jack Davis provides a useful in-depth review of gadgets to add to or use with your smart phone. He also provides a valuable survey of the most useful smart phone apps. Of necessity, Apple's iPhone 6 is the primary smart phone discussed. Trying to decide whether to buy an iPhone 6 or 6 plus, the video of Jack Davis utilizing the latest apps for photo tone mapping has pushed me to favor the Apple 6 plus.

A very useful, inspiring class! I was prepared to leave after a few hours, but I couldn't because there was so much more that I wanted to learn. Jack Davis' depth of experience makes this a "must" course if you want to learn more about taking stunning photos with your mobile device.

Enjoyed the course. Tons of new apps that will allow my creativity show. The iCloud sharing; where we can have a url is another new feature i learned that i will be using. Filmic pro was mentioned; but would have loved to see Jack demonstrate it. Great course I definitely would recommend it.
