FreePreview: Gear and Accessories

first off, um, what you may want to do, and it's not available for the IPhone six yet, and I'm prayed. It's not for Android as well. The problem with the android environment is that there's so many different phones from different manufacturers. Some companies like this one, the Olo clip. They just It's a moving target. And so it's hard for you to make a hardware device that specific Teoh device. Unfortunately, Apple's IPhone is so large that some manufacturers like Olo Clip O L L o um, clips. I'm do make hardware devices. They're not out for the IPhone six. So this is using it on my five s right now. But this is their current olo clip, which has four different lenses. It has a wide angle fisheye. And then when you pull off these lenses, they become a 10 X and a 15 x macro. Very, very nice macro lens. And we did this again yesterday in the macro class, but great to have you with you. And obviously it just goes on to your camera case. They also have a case that you can do this kind of sw...

itches on and off. So, um, the corner of the case swings out of the way so this could go on to it. They also have a now a two x telephoto. That is possible for, um you datchu it as well as a circular polarizer, which is kind of fun to be able to play around with different polarizing techniques. So a nolo clip is probably one of those things that you would also want toe have with you all the time. Another one. It wanted to show this because I didn't mention it the other day. This I pro Len Siri's kit also right now for the IPhone five not yet for the six is an excellent set of lenses. I have this one as well, but I didn't bring it with me. It needs its own case because basically, it's a bayonet mount set of lenses and all these different lenses actually stacked together and go into this little holder. And this holder turns into a handle that goes into the base of its customized case. And so you've got a handle which kind of helps stabilize special when you're shooting video, it comes with a super wide a macro and a two x telephoto with very nice multiple glass optics in there. So that's the I pro lens system. And again you can see this, though, is not going to be, you know, as cheapest YOLO clip. This is around 1 I want for the set of lenses, but it's an excellent one, So those are some lenses. As I mentioned these two, I think the Sony is there some other ones that are doing these kind of built in lenses. Both of these are excellent. They've gotten the software has gotten better. Basically, they send out their own WiFi signal, and then you connect your phone via these, um, and you'll see them come up on your WiFi so you're using them as opposed to traditional WiFi signal. Also, because it sends out its own signal. It's got nothing to do with you being by a WiFi signal. You could be in the middle of the desert, and it'll send out its own signal that what you're looking up to excellent will because it uses the Mac interface will actually shoot with that later on. Speaking about lenses, there are different systems. Most of these 1/3 part, there's Ah, a website called photo Jo Jo. Great sites Got all sorts of IPhone shots. Keys is what I call him. And one of them is this Siris of lenses that goes on to any IPhone or probably can fit on any android as well, because what they did is made that the adapter go to any size they'd like. And because you can't tell where the lens is going to be on every phone is kind of different. Um, this adapter, which takes the lenses and this is their set of their Grady int filters both color and neutral, and, um, goes on to hear screws onto the interior of these, and you can line it up wherever the lens happens to be kind of crazy. Um, these ones aren't I wouldn't recommend them because they're so subtle. You know, you can do these in an app if you wanted to do it. But, um, neutral density and other ones like that are kind of fun, and you could use them. But that is goes also with the scenario of filtering. Speaking of lenses, there's a number of manufacturers that are making things like this. Can you figure out what that would be. That is a binocular adapter, so you can put a pin ocular on your IPhone and use it as a super telephoto. Basically, you can actually just shoot through a pin ocular. So you'd set up the binocular. Or actually, you could set it up with a spotting scope, a single amano ocular, And, um, this allows you to use the viewfinder on your binocular Orman ocular or with room is a spotting scope with some of those air have amazing telephoto capabilities. So rather than using a telephoto lens, you're using something like this. These are all cheap on eBay. Some of them would also be on Amazon. Um, and there are also adapters. If you've probably seen it. There were adapters for with Canon and Nikon that allow you to put on your big boy lenses onto an IPhone. That, to me, is like, OK, now we're now you're just being silly, you know, just grow up. Now you're gonna put on, you know, it's a $2000 piece of glass onto your IPhone. It would be fun. Okay, uh, lenses, lenses, lenses that is related to the lens is the other thing that I'll mention. It's not an IPhone, but it's very, very cool. And because it's so small, you'll notice that most of this stuff that I carry out with me in the field like a nolo clip, IPhone, maybe even extra one of the Sony Lens cameras. You could have a fanny pack and literally have yourself a whole set of lenses. A whole set of a ton of things on there. One of the things that I do have with me off at all times, right? That little thing? What is this? A GoPro GoPro's a true fisheye. 12 megapixel, 30 frames a second at full resolution. And what have we been missing on a GoPro? We've been missing a built in viewfinder. This is the GoPro for I'm so bitch and have one of these because you don't and I do. This is a brand new one. Awesome! Fantastic Shoots four K video. Okay, full resolution four K video. Actually, this one doesn't. This is what's known as the hero for Silver Edition. This is the one that has the built in monitor on the back. The black addition is the one that shoots four k at 30 frames a second that shoots four K at 15 frames a second, but for me it was worthwhile to have the LCD back. I don't shoot four k video do that sort of professional stuff. And aside from that, it has every other feature of the black, including the super high speed burst mode, which is just ridiculously cool when I'm shooting, whether waves or actions or pretty much anything, the fact that I can click a button and have it shoot 30 frames in one second at full resolution is amazing. It's priceless. A swell as, of course, has the interval ometer on and everything else These can also shoot night. I'm star trails. Okay, so it can do. And if you know anything about night photography, the explosions that are necessary to capture Starlight and for it to shoot time lapse Interval ometer star trails in this thing and then you fish eyes Really what you want when shooting that trails because then it really see you go across the sky anyway go pro hero for Silver Edition. I wish I have stock in the company. I'm not getting any kickbacks on any of these, but This just means that now I always have Ah, fisheye with me. Even. You know the fact that I have it built into something like the olo clip? Um, I love the GoPro and the new silver four. Silver is awesome. Okay, um, so those let one other thing. Yeah, I have to get all the toys. This is the microbe scope. This just came out. This was a Kickstarter. This is a true microscope down to the cellular level for the IPhone, so you can use it just as a regular microscope and adapter for the IPhone is awesome. So if you actually wanted to see microbes moving about, it's awesome. Okay, those are the only ones related to lenses. The other thing that will mention here, um, waterproof case, it actually would do a couple of cases swing around here for these, Um this, um is we'll start with this one here. This is the I bets. I'm case. This is my standard case for the IPhone 55 assets. Not out on the six yet, but it will be out on the six. The thing about the I bats case is it comes with a nice felt little skinny case, which is nice, too. It's the only case that has removable batteries and these air Samsung batteries, which you can get for three of them for 10 bucks there, um, 2200 milligram, their big batteries. You can see that I have just stacks of them in my pocket. When he went down to the Grand Canyon, I just took a pocket full of these and went all week without needing a charger. Really cool. Um, so it's the only one that has a removable battery, which is that by itself is the coolest thing in the world. It also has a another case that goes on top of this, which is a completely waterproof case, also very useful on a river trip down into the Grand Canyon. So this goes inside of this, and then it also has the adapter of a super heavy duty rubberized. You know, zombie apocalypse IPhone case that you can throw against the wall. So the I bets case has a number of options. I absolutely love it. I think it's the only case you should get. Just for that one reason that it has the removable batteries on it I think it's just, you know, because you never have enough battery life, right, especially after you've had the phone for a little bit. The batteries just never quite hold the charges you'd like. This is another case called I Clam for a waterproof case. It I like it. This is in terms of a real waterproof case. This can go down to a full atmosphere on that's 30 33 feet so you actually can use it without worrying about going to the bottom of the pool and at 10 feet. You know, exploding. Which most of the waterproof cases say that they're ready to around the depth of a pool and right at the depth of a pool means that if your kid drops in as the pool in, it's an 11 foot pool. Anyway, this one will go down to an atmosphere. It's very nice. It does have a section of it that is touch so you can actually control the touch Will. It's in a case as opposed to this one, which has no controls. This you're actually using these buttons that do happen to coordinate with the, um, IPhones controls. You can still use the burst mode and shoot video and things like that. But so the I clam is a nice one that, actually, and you can see that it has the bracket for action sports. So you could put this on the you know, your your handlebars on your bicycle and go crazy. A few cases, there's 10 million cases out there. Um, so that cases, let's jump to, um, speaking about batteries. Um, you can never have enough battery life. This one movie makes a ton of them. The nice thing about this one is, um, I couldn't tell you what specific model, but it's this one looks like this. It'll be in the show notes associate it with if you buy the download. Um, this one has to ports on it, and both of these ports are to AMP. Ports, as opposed to most chargers are 10.5 milligrams, which is we'll charge your IPhone, but not an IPad. So this is full power four times faster charging than a traditional battery charger, and it will charge an IPad. If you try and put an IPad onto a traditional charger, that's you know 0.5. It just kind of laughs at you. And you know that when you do charging at home that you should be using that bigger charger rather than those tiny little chargers. Uh, these are the ones are nice. This is called my charge. And the thing that's nice about this one is it has both a micro USB on it as well as a lightning connector as well as built in prongs for the wall. So there are no things that you need with us. There are no adapters. It goes right into your IPhone or IPad or micro USB right into the wall. And it's great, and I like it. My charges an excellent one. In terms of that, it also has a USB out so you can charge anything with it. Another one called a halo that has a similar set up. This case one goes in for charging, and one which is a micro. I'm USB. It goes into your device, so it has all the cables with it. If you use this in concert with another little adapter, which I don't have out here, um, Apple makes an adapter that turns any micro USB into a lightning connector, so that's a little adapter that you should also have in your pocket. Similar to this one right here. This is another series of charging cables. Has the, um, micro a many U S B A 30 prongs and then adapt. This is the apple adapter that takes a 30 prawns and turns it into a lightning. So I've got everything that I could possibly need right here in this little retractable cable. So that's nice. Speaking about cables and those sorts of things, this is something you will need to have. This is the current generation of Theo camera card reader from Apple. These all have to be authorized from Apple. So I wouldn't, you know, risk doing the Chinese thing on these because some of them are not authorized. But this one takes an SD card, and you can put any SD card in here and it will go to your IPad. Currently, the IPad, not your IPhone. And it will suck down anything into your camera, all of your ipad, and then you can tweak it. So, Big boy, camera pointed. Shoot camera. Whatever case, it doesn't have WiFi. This is also much, much faster than WiFi. So I was actually taking this down in my IPad into the canyon. That's 128 gigabyte IPad air. So I've got a huge amount of storage on it. Take it down of the canyon. I can obviously charge that with all my old batteries. But I could take my big board camera, my 7100 my, um, all my cameras and basically used that as a way of checking the images and backing them up all without having a laptop down in the canyon. So this little SD card reader is awesome worth the price of admission, and it's from apple. Okay, continuing on I'm not from Apple. These are a shutter releases a Bluetooth shutter release that will work with your IPhone, probably with your android as well. And it basically is a wireless shutter release. So again, if you're doing macro or something else where you're not right by the phone, this will trigger it. This can actually work in concert with something like this. I mentioned doing a pano. So if you're going like this and you've got your IPhone using one of these little, you know, um, I tripod adapters, You could do this up here and click and then do your Pano and click Stop it. So it just would allow you to, you know, get kind of crazy with the release of your IPhone. So those with shutters, the other thing that you could dio which I'm planning on doing with this one is that all apple headsets? Because the shutter release on an IPhone is your volume switcher right on the side. You probably know that that your upper down volume switcher will be a shutter release on your IPhone camera. The volume switch built into every single headset is also a shutter release. So you can have your IPhone at the tail into this. Have your extra pair of headsets down here and basically Italy, that little button you can actually cut off the air pieces if you wanted to. If you've got an extra one around, you could literally have it down here and have that button, and you're triggering or starting video or starting a panorama or shooting that burst mode with a little button down here. They also make these, um, little mono pods that have a built in Bluetooth transmitter. Same thing is this one here. So you, Joseph, tape this under here. But there's some that have built in a little buttons again coming from China, and they're really cheap. So Bluetooth transmitter built into the handle of one of these things really, really useful. You combine it with a waterproof one and put it underneath the pool and start shooting underwater. Will your dry you haven't shot underwater? Look at the underwater plants. We had a great time do their part of that underwater class. Um, okay, last we're ramping up. Here's another micro lens. This is called the Easy Macro. This is a little rubber band that goes around any camera, and you can get this at photo Jo Jo and it's actually really nice macro lens, and it's amazing. Little rubber band probably won't last too long. Speaking about waterproof thes you can get at Walmart. These air the Ozark Trail cheap. So the price on it. But these air, like $ going down in the canyon there actually touch sensitive so you can use them. But they're more or less dust proof, everything proof indestructible. You just put them in there and then just like any waterproof bag and then you like this, but for the beach, You know, they're not pretty, But in terms of making sure that whatever your devices android or IPhone, um, this is an IPad one. This again was like, 10 bucks, a complete waterproof touch screen. So you can debt be in the beach in the sand was great. I use this in the canyon, and it really made me feel that I was I was set. Okay. We gotta, um coming up. This is an interesting thing, because the video is so great. If you notice the video for he says the video for this Siri's meet chatting in my backyard talking about the school, Siris was shot on the IPhone. Great video. And I got this is a little road lapel mike that you can buy. And, um, basically, it just allows you to have a little, you know, lapel mic, Go over to your IPhone. Put that on tripod, especially with your little remote turning off your video. And you're getting some amazing quality high definition video. Um, with really nice sounds with the lapel. Mic road is the one I would recommend, and it's awesome. So if you're doing your own podcast. Whatever you're doing. Awesome. Coming up to it. Um, other things that are highly recommend. One. You know, all us bees now have the potential or any devices you buy that a USB based which almost all these are gonna be. Um, USB three is the current standard 10 times faster than USB two. Don't buy anything that's ever USB to ever again. Whether it's a thumb drive or hard drive Everything. USB three, all your hubs. Since you've got, like me probably five million USB devices. Um, this is a USB three hub over here. These are all high speed. These are all lower speed. So if you had older devices that didn't take advantage of USB three, you could use this. This is one that our USB three they have ones that are seven that are all USB three there. USB three is backwards compatible with USB, too, So just make sure you get a nice big hub. That's USB three. So you get the highest possible speed. Speaking about charging, I mentioned this is a charger called a n k er anchor, and this is a five port charger, and each one of these is the to AMP. Chargers. So these are all high speed chargers. They could have all IPhones in it, or any device including all of these, you know, devices for charging and their intelligence. So they know what you plug in there and what amperage it should do. So the anchor one is great. You plug it into the wall and I have one of these always, because you've got 10 million things you need to charge. You gotta charge all your cameras and everything else, so these will charge it as fast as possible. Speaking about extending your capabilities. This is an air stash card. This has got I've got 128 gigabyte ultra high speed SD card in here. This is also a WiFi transmitter, and this allows me to back up anything from the IPhone. It'll link up this through its own WiFi transmitter, and I can copy from the IPhone IPad to this or from this to the IPhone or IPad, including movies. So your movie library of 10 million movies put that on this, and you can actually stream them in real time to your IPhone or IPad. So you've heard about these devices? It's actually is a wireless backup, and you could do that same thing where you could put in any SD card, like coming from your camera, and it would wirelessly send it over to your IPhone or IPad. Okay, so that is air stash. I like that. This is a Bluetooth flash. This is an off camera flash. Um, both cool and warm and variable intensity that you trigger your IPhone camera, and it triggers this. So I'll have to get the name of this one. Because it's this is also I think photo Jo Jo, sales this if and dad got a photo. Jo Jo just has every gadget you can think of. But this is a off camera. Bluetooth flash. Last but not least, you've got a Siris of stylists. Assistance is this is someone you need to have a good stylist. If you do any painting or drawing this one, I need to get the name on it. W w r I think his name on it. This one is a fine toothed find point. Stylists. Most styluses, as you know, look like this, right? They're not at all for fine tip drawing. This one is awesome. It has to have a battery because it actually has to augment the electricity in your hand in order to register a single signal for you to do find drawing. But this one, because you just, you know, basically take the point out that turns it on. That turns it off. And the last four, I think, six months. But it is a great, great and also times that if you don't use it, that is a great one. This one is is you've probably seen is adobes. This is adobes. One does the same sort of thing. Find tip. It does have power in it. You charge it through this same devices. Got a micro USB right here. But this one is touch sensitive. But touch sensitive means it has to be controlled by software that one will work with anything. It has no connection to software. This one connects via Bluetooth and has touch sensitive. So these works, especially when we later on today, you'll see some of the eps from Adobe and some of their new drawing APs take advantage of this pressure sensitivity. Also, other manufacturers, like paper from 53 will t take advantage of the touch sensitivity of the apples of the adobes one. This one I mentioned before is kind of interesting. And this one also this one is the sense. Ooh, brush. And it is actually a brush. It is a actual fuzzy tipped brush. She wore a white shirt. Shane, I have to show that. But that actually lets you paint. And it is conductive to electricity, and you can actually paint with it. And it just gives you a different feelings, you know, Brush tip. If you're a painter, you're used to having a certain feel to it. So this is for Petey. There are other ones that are kind of cool and need that Have some nice tips too. This is Adobe is when you buy this set. This is their ruler, um, called slide and ink and slide is the set. And this is a digital ruler that you put on your devices. And since Adobe has a whole set of drawing free APS now, this is your digital ruler for using that, and I think that's good for now. The last thing, the most important thing, of course, is this one the USB people. That was the comic relief at the end of the session.

Along with showing a large number of beautiful photographs, Jack Davis provides a useful in-depth review of gadgets to add to or use with your smart phone. He also provides a valuable survey of the most useful smart phone apps. Of necessity, Apple's iPhone 6 is the primary smart phone discussed. Trying to decide whether to buy an iPhone 6 or 6 plus, the video of Jack Davis utilizing the latest apps for photo tone mapping has pushed me to favor the Apple 6 plus.

A very useful, inspiring class! I was prepared to leave after a few hours, but I couldn't because there was so much more that I wanted to learn. Jack Davis' depth of experience makes this a "must" course if you want to learn more about taking stunning photos with your mobile device.

Enjoyed the course. Tons of new apps that will allow my creativity show. The iCloud sharing; where we can have a url is another new feature i learned that i will be using. Filmic pro was mentioned; but would have loved to see Jack demonstrate it. Great course I definitely would recommend it.
