Your Vital Values

So now that we've kind of determined our value and gotten that window into how others see us and external clues we could bring into our dream career and now let's actually work from an internal place and focus on our vital values now our values show us exactly what we want to build our lives and our passionate careers around. So like we've been talking about more than once, we want to be able to get up in the morning and say eighty percent of my day the things I have to do for that amount of time make me happy and if we pinpoint our values we have a much stronger compass in order to make those decisions and see what it is we want to be doing so this is not before we start. This is not about what your significant other once this is not about what your mama wants this is not about what your children want. This is what you want and what you want right now you think you're gonna want in thirty years not things that you should want it's about who you are right now and what you want so we ha...

ve to allow ourselves to declare the values that are vital for us in the here and now so page thirty two thirty one of your notebook has a list of common values now these might ring true to you and they might not ring true to you so I made sure it says add your own and your own eso if there's anything there that is left out that you know is important to you then add it but we want you to for those with the with the workbook will make it really easy either cross out the things that you know do not apply to you and or circle the ones that you know dio and I find a really great way to get the truth around what your values are is to ask yourself, does this thing guide me in my day to day decisions? Um what guys, me in my day to day decisions, what is the intention that I have in how I want to feel or how I interact with people? Does this guide my day to day intentions or decisions asking that question should knock out that should tze and the supposed twos and the maybes because I think we look at a list like this and we go into like, oh that's a good thing to have that's a bad thing to have and it's just total b s er there's no right or wrong answers as long as you're staying true to who you are now, so we all writing really looking, you know, working when you guys circling or what are you writing in? I'd love to hear show and what you got over there that you're circling so far, eh? So far, I've circled authenticity and helping and underlined travel. It's not something I've had, but they could be fun. Interesting. I like this. So if you want to have a different kind of code for yourself, that maybe these air things that piqued your interest or, you know, uh, maybe guide you to a lesser extent, then. That's. Great. Anyone else want to share in the states? So you're checking things off. I went on your checklist. Work, life, balance, time, freedom, independence, excitement, creativity, cole anyone add anything that's? Not on that list. No. Okay, interesting. You might end up adding something. We talk about it. Uh, but what we want to do is we want to be left with about five vital values. If it's four, if it's six it's, no big deal, but we don't want, like, twenty values because that's goingto be ridiculous and not be much of a help for us. So once you have circled or check marks are underlined, the values that you feel ring true to you. We want to kind of these values against each other, and I know that this is a really again, tough thing to dio so usually the best thing to do with this is to kind of take one value and the next and, like, make them fight each other. So if you, uh, if you had checked off advancement and accomplishment let's say he would say, what determines my day today? Interactions and decisions, more advancement or accomplishment and the winner would probably be part of your vital values. One of the five values and the loser might not be unless you put that loser up against another value, that it goes up again, so we could kind of like thing of it is a values boxing match. Is this clear? I'm hoping, yes, so we want to be left with about five values. J k, what are people saying online? With what there? I'm just trying to get some reaction from there going. I sometimes like the silence because it means that they're working. Yeah, I know that that right? Exactly, and I'm sure they're working with their workbooks and trying to get some things down fresh started saying growth, teaching, creating, transformation, fathers and map andras saying friendship, influence, creativity, challenge on learning I'm looking, you know, growth isn't on here, and I love that, and some other things that were mentioned weren't on here. Um and I want to say that these values and really this work in general it's all about semantics I feel like semantics air so important so if there is a word that that thie idea of it rings true to you but that word is in a connection replace it with your own word so maybe you know, maybe adventure kind of rings true for you but clearly thanks this person but I want to travel or I want teo push myself and maybe pushing myself is a value are getting out of my comfort zone is a value it could be a phrase it doesn't just have to be a word uh which is great anyone down to their top five wants to share yes, andrea I will actually have six. Okay, great. Um okay, so I started with accomplishment um authenticity is very important. I exchange it for interchange it with integrity. I feel like I have to say helping and time freedom is really a me and learning and then the last thing is meaning I really want to find meaning in my work and that is so specific to each and every one of us it is so specific to each and every one of us what someone finds meaningful to them will not be with someone else finds meaningful it's not like the woman who does laos calls and does the head home removal and you know, just talking to megan she's able to find meaning in her work as a men's fashion blogger because it connects her with people so I would really encourage you guys to then go and write the definitions like right what each of these words means to you so we could always look look up stuff on dictionary dot com and sometimes is interesting actually when a word speaks to us if we look up its meaning even though even if it's a really obvious word we might find something that is uh I don't know really eye opening or we haven't thought of before uh and so I would love for you guys to write down there's a space in your workbook to do this write down your top values and what it means to you so your own definition of them love this there's lots of writing here in the audience I hope that there's lots of writing here it home I know why and I love that kind of like the silence right now would you let it sit for a while? I kind of love it we got some or townie vital values absolutely scheider is saying creativity, friendship, collaboration time frieden on learning on work life balance fabulous and they're susie max solo says I've got my six it's collaboration learning meaning friendships, adventure and challenge challenges actually come a few times because the rocks table rock stay also included challenge created expression freedom, independence, friendship, challenging authenticity e I love that interesting one I love this on I'll give you a sneak preview of ah of of my values but I ended up writing in some of my own relationships is something it's just a word that guides me and it means something to me different than friendships and it's different than collaboration I know for me relationships means that connection and building that bridge and really being there for somebody I want to have that connect I could probably also say connection but relationships it's best with me did you fantastic? I also put down wellness so some sometimes people say you know health is a value are treating our body well or self care something but I like the word wellness because that to me is just more of a bigger picture about what I'm doing to take care of myself and make sure that I'm in balance physical physically and mentally um and I also put down passion is a word that is not there but that is important to me I want teo I'm a passionate person and it's okay if someone's not a passionate person but I want to bring that into what I do and I only want to really do the work that makes me passionate I think especially as a recovering people pleaser and someone who wants to say yes all the things because I'm about relationships and every time I having the opportunity to build a relationship with someone I want to go yet again the answer is yes, but taking a step back and saying is this something I'm really passionate about will this bring in my authenticity which is another word that I used does will this relate on dh help me with my wellness? Will this be relationship based work that helps me make the decision as to what I'm saying yes and no to and throughout the years of how to say no to a lot more things than I used to, which is a good thing, which is a really good thing um great could I hear some of your definitions of jennifer did with freedom because I just sort of I don't know if it's a cheat or not but I loved a bunch of things into that perfect not a cheat at all if that's the word that speaks to you is the value over the other words that you use that's perfect because to me it's kind of like a chance to have financial freedom, huh time freedom the ability to work on different projects, huh? Oh freedom and choosing what I want to work on a work life balance and then also the freedom to travel when I want to love it love it represents so much it's perfect who else want to share a definition? Yes jenna I think similar to relationships which you mentioned I put community and I like the idea of creating something that helps people connect but then doesn't necessarily have and end in the life cycle like putting something out there that continually will be growing and changing and adapting to help connect people I don't know what that is but I love it it's like a great jumping off point and then that like builds in talking to the person that's trying to figure out what should I pick you don't have to peck you just know like a that's my mission that's what I'm building and I'm giving myself of space to have it expands and have it change and have a pivot tomorrow a year from now sixty years from now that's I love that I'm getting excited excited up up in away any definitions coming up on the chat coming from the students what they're right who else has definitions for us mmm mmm mmm saythe activity but I kind of did the same thing in terms of expanding into everything's on the ability like create and recreate mice self huh? I know what the situation is of course creating things eyes in my hands but just the ability to think outside the box and whatever situation so lad love it anyone having a challenge coming up with their definition of any of these values, I see some like empty spaces and some of your workbooks that I don't know if you're like skipping because it's tough for you having problems. Now, I see a few more coming in now from online video is saying valises, sharing creativity, faith, knowledge, learning and physical health says she knows that seven but that's okay, but I'm curious how knowledge and learning are different for her because of me, yeah, tell her or him teoh right back in with that definition, because to me they're very connected, but that person they might not be, but that could be a way to kind of not things and together absolutely on lawman seven to eight is saying fun, laughter, creativity, money and excitement of identity that's five that's a good life, right? Yeah, that's good like fun, laughter, money, creativity and excitement. That is a good life that someone who's waking up in the morning and saying, you get to do all this stuff and it's in the autumn. I love that you think sometimes we'd you know it's, the should zits like we should fund shouldn't be something no, we're grownups and like, we're not here to have fun, and we're not here to play, and we're but that's, what makes life enjoyable on worth living is the things that we find fun, playful love that jenny has been quiet, but you have a lot written down. Yeah, well, I think, um, I had challenged down and, you know, I like to do things that are challenging that I think I can accomplish or other people think I can't accomplish mostly about it, too, that I'm always trying to challenge other people like tryingto bring us together to do something that we haven't done before. So interesting challenge really hit me first, but then, like as I was running down the definition, I kind of thought of more ways that it meant something. I love that and that's a great way to expand on this stuff, too. So if you see your value and your definition, that gives you ideas, certain things, well, how could I do this so it's not on ly about challenging myself, it's challenging others to step outside their comfort zone or it's live up to their potential or to do something that they haven't done before? That's a really great insight, love that love that.

This class was sooo incredibly fun and inspiring. It was wonderful to meet Michelle and interact with her in person. She is warm, kind, approachable and genuinely passionate about helping creatives find a career they can love. Having been raised to believe that the only route to a secure retirement was to find a job with a pension or, at least, a good 401k, this class gave me the courage to believe that I could do work I love and still finance a fabulous life in retirement. It also put things in perspective because it helped me to see that I deserve to be happy as much as anyone else who has carved a successful niche for themselves doing work they feel good about. And, it reminded me that if I try something and discover it isn't the right fit, the worse that can happen is that I go find that job with a pension at that point. So what? Why not me? Amen! xoxo, Jen

My dad used to tell me, "You don't get to do what you love. You just learn to love what you do." For years and years, I've been wandering from job to job wondering why I just wasn't feeling the love, no matter how much I learned to be good at what I do. Although, I tried to resign myself to the idea that work would always be something to dread day in and day out, I couldn't help but day dream about the elusive "perfect" job! I searched for years for tests or counselors who could help give me some direction as to what I would be good at and just before I lost hope, I found this class. I snuck it in during work on my cellphone (shh don't tell lol) and was running back to my desk when I had to be pulled away. It's nice to know someone understands what I've been going through and Michelle's energy is just so positive and motivating that I know that I can make things happen! I watched the free live broadcast but even before the end of day 1 I knew this class was a resource I'll gladly pay for! I would and have recommended this class to many people I know feel the same way I do! Changed my life! We're not made to fit into a mold so why not create your dream career! My review in one word? Amazeballs!

I purchased this course and made sure to finish it before 2015 started. It was so easy to go through the course and I made sure to be diligent in actually doing the activities and homework. I never knew there were other MULTI-PASSIONATE out there like me! I thought I was just a confused human being who needs to figure out her life! Haha! Michelle's energy and passion to help others are so eminent in the way she presents and guides us. I love the setting of Creative Live as well because I felt involved with the studio audience despite having to watch these sessions by myself. :) I learned so much about myself, about how I can incorporate my multiple interests into a unique ball of career perfectly molded for me, by me. All thanks to the help and wisdom of Michelle's experiences and talents. What a great end of 2014 and a great way to start 2015! THIS COURSE IS WORTH YOUR TIME AND MONEY. :)
