Middle Name Ceremony

go back to kind of one of these early ideas we're talking about about being brave and scared shitless and how, How, how kind of important that is. And, um, we all you have, you know that that the the the universal truth, you know, the what the universal truth is is that nobody knows shit. I mean, I've got I work with, you know, high end creatives. I work with CEOs of companies and magazines and we've had them over for for dinner in our workshops and stuff. And we always have a conversation about fear. I was hanging out with the the chief editor of Esquire magazine in his office, drinking scotch and having a really nice conversation. And not until I have mentioned fear did he really get excited. And he's like, Oh, my gosh, fear, he says. I I waver between confidence and fear, like like a metro. Nome said on, you know, 15 minutes, like just back and forth. And we have to understand that nobody knows whatever you're thinking is wrong. And we need we need these reminders. We need to take c...

lasses we need to read. We need to have powerful thoughts. We need these reminders. And I had a reminder a couple of months ago, and I got a phone call from a pal of mine. His name is Christian Christian Helms in Austin, Texas. I've known him since he was a student. He's kind of a protege of mine. Now he's kicked butt and he's whipping it up in Texas and is a student studio called Helms Works. I think that does amazing, amazing work. What was that card? And, um, he left me a phone message on my phone and I recorded it. I kept it for you because I kept I keep it because it's not like I have to keep going back to it and listen to it. But I think about it every once in a while and we need these reminders and I need these reminders. So he called me and he left. This message changes Christian picking a callback starring Mr the other day on a crazy week. The things going really good, man. I'll try you again later in the day. And I got you for a glass of wine or stock. You're here. But these days I'm feeling good man. James fucking Victoria and that must be along. But so I needed this outside source this outside Muse to tell me I'm James F. Victoria. I haven't awesome middle name. Do you guys have an awesome middle name? Well, I'm gonna give you one right now. We're going to have a middle name ceremony, and there are envelopes that you've been handed. And one by one, I want you open. You guys can open up your envelopes. And one by one, we're gonna go through Scott and Melvin and everybody, and you were going to stand up and like, you mean it. I want you to stand up and tell me your full name with your new middle name and stand up and say it like you mean it. Scott, stand up. I am Scott Warrior, not warrior Mop in. Yes, Melvin, Tell us your middle name. I am Melvin. Get ready to rumble. Lauren Lauren, The one and only Turetsky want. And only Marina. I'm Marina Thunder and Lightning on Exane. All right. I am Lisa. Chuck Norris calls me sir. Or ma'am. I'm Stephanie. Full throttle. Jackson Pro. Never coasting. Full throttle. I am Andy. I woke up like this. Yeah, Andy Rado. I'm Christopher Umbrian. SexyBack Couldn't have a better Franco Franco in my dust dust. Fannie, I'm Fanny can touch this much. Awesome. Pause! Pause. Kiss my grits. Fernandez, Kiss my grits. I am Juliet. Darth er than Darth Vader. I love it. I'm Maureen, reigning champion. Cleo. I am Lana. I make the rules, Meltem. I make the rules. Awesome, guys. So brilliant. Let's that we need these reminders. And now you have a new middle name that you can always rely on. You are powerful. My, I want to thank you guys for being here. And listen. The best wish I could give for you is that you go out and live your lives the way you want to live them, Not what you think society and your friends and your family want from you. That's important. It's also very hard. But you now have a new middle name. You've been christened. You are heroes. You guys, air leaders. You're awesome. And I appreciate you guys being here with us. That was brilliant.

I am not a graphic designer, I'm an artist, but this class translates beautifully. James' teaching style is nothing short of delicious - fresh, alive, fun, exciting - while being full of depth and poignant, valuable content, much of which transcends medium and brings value to any creative individual. I found particular value in the lessons around tools (and altering tools), the criteria for good work, the need to infuse your opinion into your work, the value of abandoning perfection, paying attention to cancer that is one's ego and that we are meant to be creators, and not 'the help'. More than anything else though, I benefited from being reminded, with such a burning passion, that we are not put on this earth to pay a mortgage and support a family, but to identify our true work and to bring it into existence in this world. So nice to reminded of something I know but forget on a regular basis. One of the best online classes I have ever taken - a real home run.

I loved this course! Exceeded every notion I had. The design, concepts and principles were fun, funny and insightful. But James went so far beyond the "poster design" and into the philosophy, thinking, inspiration - huge! I am so glad I watched this course not only for the quick wit and fast humor (Jame's is smart! Sharp... And Really Funny - compliments his teaching and design), but the reading list he suggests, ways to nudge your creativity and the fashion with which he gets you thinking... Invaluable! Organic, Rich, Impact and message - this course has the design "how-to" covered, the real pearls are Jame's humble experience and generosity. Great Course... Oh, and check out his book! "Victore! or, Who Died and Made You Boss?" Inspiration and fun!

Came to this course (and site) via Anna Dorfman's blog. Loved the motivational and philosophical aspects of the course. Very entertaining and inspirational. Also loved listening to Victore discuss his own work and process-- the stories of how he got specific ideas, tinkered with them, perfected them, etc.. As for the critiques of student and online work, I didn't find them very useful. I would love to see him pick out a few of the very best, and then give his own short and sweet-- and specific-- insights into how HE would improve them. Or just abandon the critiques entirely and instead show and discuss more of his own or other successful designers' work. Overall, fun and inspirational, with some helpful tips.
