Class Introduction

So I want to talk about why I created this class because this class is really near and dear to my heart, probably more than any other class I've ever taught here on Creativelive. So I did go to art school. I have a B f A in metals mething where ironically, I almost never worked with metal. I was that weird girl drilling holes in Crans and those air chocolate chips and Hershey's Kisses. So I went to art school. I got my B f a in Metal Smith thing, and I had no idea what to do with a B F A in metals. Nothing, Right? What does that prepare you for? So I decided I was gonna get my MFK seemed like the logical solution. And so I went to grad school. I loved my grad school experience, but a couple of things happened there. This was my thesis work. This is a full scale, nonfunctional welded wire living room. So one of the things I learned is that there's very little market for a $10,000 wire chair that you can't actually sit in because it doesn't hold weight. So there, when that issue right I ...

was like, Well, I have no idea how I'm gonna sell this, but I needed to make money. I was not in a position where I could not afford to make money. I was going to get married. My husband made money, but we needed both incomes. And so I need to figure out how to do it And what I realized besides that there is no market for $10,000. Chairs that you can't sit on is that art school had given me these really huge mental roadblocks that were actually standing in the way of my business success. And this is in no way dig on my professors or art schools in general. I loved art school. I want to be really clear about that. I would have gone forever, except my husband was like, You can't go to school anymore. It's time to time to make some money. Otherwise, I would probably not be standing here. I would still be getting another degree. So I loved art school and my professors were amazing and I actually was really fortunate and that I did have professors who were supportive of actually thinking about business, and I know some people have had art school experiences where their professors were completely anti business. I was not. In that case, my professors were amazingly understood. People have to make a living, So I had that. But at the same time, the art school atmosphere still creates these roadblocks. And these roadblocks really are culturally pervasive. We see them happening all the time.

This class was so good - it's not just for people who went to art school, but anyone who has (or wants to have) a creative-based business. Megan's lessons break down the overwhelmingness of roadblocks and gives you tangible tools to get past them, shift your mindset, and shows you how to focus. There were so many elements to this class that were helpful, but overall I think if you feel like you're stuck, you overanalyze every decision, and feel like you want to move forward but don't know how, this class is for you. Thanks Megan, for helping me work on a plan to move me past my hurdles.

I have owned this class for awhile and just decided to start it.... well I should have watched/taken this class years ago! I did not go to art school but follow that mindset. This was amazing. So much to learn and unlearn. The pricing and raising your prices what just what I needed. Thank you Megan for another wonderful class.
