Creating Hybrid Scrapbooking Pages and Books

Now this is going to make it possible for you to use things like slip ins or stitches around the outside edges of your layout. Now I always get this question. I saw these clippings are very popular, but nobody knows how to use them. And it's funny because you see that when you drop this slipping in here is supposed to recreate plastic and it totally does. But holy heck, what happened to my layout hasn't looked very good. So what you have to do is you have to add a shadow to these to make them work. And I wrote a tutorial for this. But I want to talk about it here, too, because I still get the question all the time. And so we need to create a shadow for this, and what we do is it's, just like in acrylic shadow, you go to drop shadow and instead of multiply, which is going toe really dark and your layout even more, you go to linear burn, and you can see that while we maintain the highlights of the plastic, you can actually bring the color back in, either via color burn our linear burn de...

pending on what your layout likes you bring the color back in while still getting that cool plastic feeling of the page overlay so you can see if I turn it off it's kind of muddy and gross but if I turn it back on you get all that color back in there but then you still get the plastic overlay now if you were to save these for hybrid scrapbooking and said so in instead of printing out a full twelve by twelve digital page you actually want to slip your four by six is and you three by force into pockets if you were to do that instead what you would do is you would open up a new four by six change inches fell books for my six campus and you would add each of your journaling cards to this four by six camest one by one so we're gonna have all of the four by now what do you do with the three by fours I get this question all the time but it's so simple all you have to do is take one three by four and copy and pasted onto your four by six moving all the way to the side and then grab another three by four copy and paste it on your campus move it to the other side and printed as a four by six super simple um I like to merge these two layers together and I actually printed home so what I would do once I had all of my cards on this one document is I would turn all the layers off and then one by one I work my way down from the top up from the bottom and just print a mall so print, and then turn on the next layer print, turn on the next layer print around next I print, and then you can you have all your four by six is printed out really fast, and you can slip them into the pockets, and you can actually embellish on top of those pockets as well. So it's a if you if your passion is also lives in paper scrap booking, but you really love all these digital tricks that we've been learning. This is a really awesome way to collide the best of both worlds and that's what I do, actually, with my pocket scrapbooking, as I will print out all of these cars that I pre design, and then I will add more realistic paper embellishments on top of them. Well, I think that we have covered everything that we possibly could cover indigenous crab. Some people are very interested in printing now, I know you said you do printed home, and your son mentioned that I think you shot of life, you're printing. Do you have any tips and tricks about printing? And you'd like to share with the audience? Well, the most important thing with printing is to make sure, even when you send it out, tio a service such as persnickety prince or shutterfly they are going tio take exactly what they see and sometimes they're going to cut off the edge is sometimes it's going to be a little bit funky? I know that persnickety care specifically the scrap bookers, so they're really good about not doing that, but just make sure that when you are printing, especially the four by six is that if you are worried about something getting cut off like the edge of this photo right here on the on the campus is kind of close, if you're worried about it getting cut off, I'd rather just resize it a little bit just make it a little bit smaller when I print so that maybe I might have a little bit of a too small of a card, but it doesn't get cut off or make sure that you design your cards so that you don't have that issue that's another way to prevent it that journaling off the edge? Yeah, I prevent or I always print at home I'm way too impatient to order prints. So I have a really good printer it's an ep, sin and it's important to have a good printer that you really like there's a lot of options for pocket scrap pickers, specifically there's the cannon selfie that prince four by six is there's a little tiny s and picture made that does the same thing, so I know that all of those air really valid options, you just want to make sure that you don't have a really not good printer and pick a good paper to I know that the paper is so expensive, but pick the good paper and you'll get the good prince. Now pizza is saying I scrap generally twelve by twelve, but I do my own printing so he's saved as an eight by eight to print, do you just then resized to twelve by twelve and printers this size thing? If you are a twelve by twelve scrap booker in your digital scrapbooking, you have to leave it at twelve by twelve if you try to resize on anybody up to a twelve by twelve it's going to get really picked, isolated and it's probably will be tolerable for most people, but it would drive me crazy, so if you are twelve by twelve scrapbook er stay with saving at twelve by twelve size don't try and re size backup from anybody right now. One of things I noticed earlier was when you were talking about colors, I think you're seeing them slightly differently on your screen than the one that we kind of waited for our audience, just in terms of some of the shading, a neck border question from team cobra is saying tracy, do you calibrate your monitor? Because I've changed photos to what was great for me, but when my friends saw it on her screen, then they looked at differently you have to take into account the calibration. So as a designer, of course I calibrate my monitor. However, my monitor can make perfectly calibrated, but it your monitor looks different than my monitor. It doesn't matter how well calibrated my monitor was, you're going to see something different than I did, so to take into account everybody's different monitors would be really hard, so what I calibrate for is what I wanted to look like printed, and so, yeah, there are softwares that you can use to calibrate your monitor, you can just google it and really true, like design quality calibrations going to cost a lot of money, like for the program, but there are free options out there to get your monitor closer to what we're seeing when we designed the product and also max, I'll have more calibrated monitors, then there's so many different pc monitors out there. The backlit mac monitors are really good. You want to get a really high quality monitor to begin with if you can afford it, because those are automatically going to stay better in the calibration range than the less expensive one. Especially if you have a laptop. Oh, my gosh, laptops there so hard. If you look at it at a different angle, you're going to see different colors, so scrapbooking on a laptop can be difficult to definitely a fast. Some people who are pc users have been asking lots of questions of each other, how they actually do some of the things that you've been sharing exit looks completely different when they tried to do it. That's, quite a fly's. Definitely give me different keyboard shortcut. But if you remember that command is control and option is all, he should be. Good to go.

I'm currently halfway through the courses, and I am so glad I decided to watch these. I haven't been scrapping for very long, and am mostly self taught through tutorials found on the internet and youtube. I found that various concepts weren't explained to me (how to really use a template, designer intentions, how to use other layouts for inspiration) and so I sort of hit a wall trying to get further in scrapping digitally. This course basically broke down the walls and provided me with so much info and inspiration that I feel really comfortable in taking my efforts further. Whereas before I was thinking that I might always be stuck with a mediocre result :) thank you Traci!!
